I bought some stuff on ebay last week and have tracked the delivery to Irish customs. Can anyone suggest what I should do next? Will the package continue on to me with the courier or will I have to get it myself? Who should I contact now about this?

    Thanks

Irish customs will decide how much excise/tax is due and the package will be sent on to you.

An Post charge an additional €5 to collect the dues, but a courier firm could charge €20 or more for the same thing.

Best bet - phone the courier company and ask them.

If it was sent by post then An Post will collect any duty & VAT due on it. You won't have to do anything unless it's shown as being in Customs for a few days, then I would ring them.

Did you get that information from USPS or An Post website? An Post look after delivery for USPS in Ireland.

Call down to your local sorting office. They may still have it and just forgot to leave a note when attempting delivery.

I just got a delivery from UPS for my work, was speaking to the driver he has 14 deliverys from hk and usa import duty to be paid on all of them, he says this has been the norm from the start of the year.

Tell them to prove it and produce a signature

From my experience most of the time they don't get anyone to sign for it, of course if they can't prove it in this case then their liable for the goods from what I can see as they've affectively "lost them"

As the man says, I got a tripod delivered from Taiwan last month, and had to sign for it (plus hand over the tax :(). If it's on their tracking system, then it should have been signed for, and if it wasn't you signed for it, then it's their fault - they didn't do their job. The track and trace should show more stuff after "Released from customs", you should have it arriving at the local delivery office, then out for delivery etc. If you have none of these, then they may have lost it somewhere in Portlaoise

guess what was sitting at the back of the post office gathering dust!!

they said they tried to deliver it but there was no answer. and they didn't leave a delivery note because there was money owed on it.

i didn't bother arguing.... i got my tripod!!
