    Hi all,

heading off on round the world trip next month - will be in S.E Asia until June - then Oz for about six months.

Any advice on best clothes to bring (I'm male 25 yr old) ? was planning on shorts
    tshirts
    1 pair jeans
    1 warm top
    couple of shirts

Anything else that I should bring....beside the obvious medicines/camera/sunglasses/first aid etc.. etc..

Obviously don't wanna have tons of clothes i'm not gonna use...and from what i've read i can pick up things pretty cheap on the way in most places in S.E Asia ?

Any advice would be great. Thanks

Pack and then remove half of it. I always over pack and particularly on a journey like this you only need the bare essentials and then buy anything you need.

Literally bring 1 or 2 t-shirts as you will buy plenty of them, shorts and even runners in S.E Asia. Cheaper over there.

Yep was planning on working in an office job when I get to Oz. Was thinking I could just pick up work clothes pretty cheap over there when I arrive instead of lugging them around with me for 4 months before hand ?

    alarm clock

small torch, invaluable for finding your bed in dorms late at night

yellow health cert. book with all your vacinations

padlock for your bag on buses and for your locker in hostels

clothes are relatively cheap in Oz so you're right, wait till you're there before you buy them. Bring as little stuff as possible, you can always wash clothes in hostel sinks. Remember you need room for bringing back souvenirs!

Do not bring jeans under any circumstances! They're heavy, and take AGES to dry when wet. Bring smart combats or something similar - maybe the ones with zip off legs.

Also, consider a silk-sleeping bag liner - i found it invaluable especially in Asia when the sheets might not be the best. They're light as a feather, dry in seconds, keep you warm in the cold, and cool when it's too warm. They'll also protect you from bed bugs and mozzies. It's a no brainer. You can get them in the Great Outdoors and most other outdoor shops. Don't be tempted to get the cheaper cotton, it negates all the positives that silk has to offer.

I'll second the zip-ties, and duct-tape too. Some large zip-lock bags can be very useful too.

Keep the packing light, you'll get everything over there - no need for jeans in SE Asia :) Agree with the poster above, combats are the way forward...

For work clothes, if your heading through Vietnam, get a suit & a few shirts tailor made in Hoi An - good quality and fairly cheap ;)

The whole town is littered with Tailors, so you can haggle and get a good deal especially if your getting a few pieces.

Damn good idea, i got a bad dose of bedbug bites in Bangkok, wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy

Maybe a good pair of sandles, the one i got over there kept on breaking and breaking but hey, maybe that was just me

Enjoy the trip :( (a jealous frown)
