Providing his chin holds up, I expect Khan to really
dominate within the next 12-18 months and hopefully
    win a world title....

so will the winner of the eliminator fight katsidis or diaz?

Not exciting at all , he was meant to be taking on Romanov for the European title(a proper fight) before going for a World title in his fight after that .

Kristjansen offers nothing and is less of a threat to Khan than Thaxton is .
He's as hand picked an opponent as you can have in a World title eliminator .

Khan will look spectacular in stopping Kristjansen and will probably look good before Katsidis sparks him .

This is actually a step down from St.Clair , and another thing to note is that the WBO's title situation is a bit odd at the moment and Khan could end up fighting for a vacant title . Due to Don King Juan Diaz(WBO champion) isn't defending against WBO interim champion Michael Katsidis . So Juan Diaz could be stripped , however Katsidis is going to be fighting Joel Casamayor and that could well end up for the WBC interim title leaving the WBO title vacant .

This is exactly what Frank Warren wants , a vacant belt that is easy to obtain with little threat .
It seems Warren has gone to great lenghts to keep Khan away from punchers , Kristjansen only has 5 stoppages from 19 wins , St.Clair wasn't known as a puncher at Featherweight and Limond wasn't at Super-Featherweight either so up at Lightweight they were never going to offer a good test of chin(or at least so it appeared till Limond dropped Khan) .

Khan was also dropped in one of his last amateur fights , by either Craig Watson or Jamie Coyle(can't remember really , but I think it was Watson) .

He's got fantastic talent and skill , along with great potential . But he's already lucky not to have been counted out(when he went down on his knee again against Limond it had been more than 10 seconds) and had he not had the promoters backing who knows .

Anyway Khan ko Kristjansen before the 6th .

    Nice post , Bigears !
    Agree 100%.

People like FWarren and Don King etc , promote and destruct boxing at the same time.

Bring back the days when the best fought the best !
When the victory was more important than the purse.

and i think the limond KO would have been an awful stoppage. i think thats unanimous.

khans done a lot more than most have at this stage of his career. hes still young. enjoy his ascent and enjoy him learning his trade. if you don't like his next fight, don't watch.simple

Well Ill watch it alright , .. kinda stupid thing to say imo.

I think the point is the route to world champion without having to fight any world class opponent.

Khan is surely way too young to be thrown in to Diaz's skill bracket.

His biggest scalp is the win over Kindelan ? who was just hanging up.

Look fellas, he's only turned 21....
I'm not expecting him to be a legit champ tomorrow, but by 23 I think if
as I said, his chin holds up, he can become the best lightweight out there. This is exciting and sooner or
later he will fight the cream and will be tested. Give it time fellas.
He will not win a legit title without being tested and without meeting
    punchers....

I think some are being a little too unreasonable as too his
progress and are expecting great great things so soon...

I for one will be rooting for the lad as I have
supported him since Athens. Why do some
here want to see him sparked??
    I hope it's nothing
to do with where he's from?

My expectations are merely the same level as Khan himself , if there wasn't so much hype about him and him/Frank Warren claiming he is going to beat Naz's record in becoming the World champion from Britain(meaning in something like 6 months) . It is them that dais they'd take Romanov's European title , it is them that said they'd take Thaxton's British title(then pulled out of the purse bids) .
I a merely equaling my expectaions to their own .

Rather than wanting to see him sparked , I am just expecting to see him sparked . Some of this mollycoddling Frank Warren is doing for him could turn out to be part of the reason as if he goes from St.Clair and Kristjansen to Katsidis he'll have felt nowhere near the power and volume of punches he'll have to take that night . He'll be facing someone that is easy to hit , but will just try and walk right through you and destroy you with his own punches .

akindoc I'm not saying the ref should of waved it off as a tko(that would of been terrible) but because he went back down on his knee during the count and more than 10 seconds had elapsed(just) by right he should of been counted out .

Just because I don't like the choice of opponent doesn't mean I shouldn't watch the bout , after all I'm a boxing fan and I enjoy watching boxing .

Big ears, I am in the same boat as you regarding Khan's potential.
We both doubt his chin, but at 21 I think he is far from being protected. It's too early to say this. If in another 2 yrs Khan is still unbeaten without having faced a top ten world fighter, then I would agree. Right now, only 2 years into his pro career, he is perfect and like I said, time will tell and eventually we will see him face the BEST, providing he doesn't get sparked in between.....

He's very talented but still has proved little in the pro ranks, time will tell..

Paul, there are very very few at 20/21 who have proved a lot. He has proved up to this point and time, that he is class. He can do no more than this. His chin is the main sticky area....

first time he meets a real puncher with a bit of quality he'll be out of there. i don't want to see him get sparked, as i've watched him since the Olympics, but i'll be surprised if his chin holds up against a boxer like Thaxton for instance.

Juan daiz would destroy him and he was a WBA WORLD CHAMPION at 20 thats class :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,972 ✭✭✭joepenguin

i think khan is progressing at a good pace and isnt over protected, obviously as he's such a prospect he is a bit and they wont throw him in there with anybody which is fair enough, id like to see him in fights for the european and at least one true top ten ranked opponent this year.

He was 21 and it was his 25th pro fight and it was after 4 years campaigning....

Khan is 2.5 years into his career and in his due his 17th bout....

I think this is a fair comparison. 18 months and maybe 6-7 more bouts and
he will duplicate Diaz..He will be older, granted, but the time frames are almost identical, should
    he continue winning...

When you take into account Diaz was still in college up until last year(and all throughtout his title reign) it is even more impressive what he done .

    I wouldn't quite agree.

I think Diaz (while very good) is somewhat overratted.
He's very strong, has a good chin, an excellent workrate and stamina, but I think someone like Khan would be the exact type to beat him.

Diaz doesn't have a big punch and can be hit easily enough and that's a combination that an excellent boxer like Khan could take advantage of round after round. I think Khan has very good stamina so that really shouldn't come into it.

I personally think if they meet Khan will win a wide unanimous decision.

Diaz is a very special talented fighter with excellent stamina, workrate and versatility. He throws every shot in the book. Khan's offense is blazing fast and hard. I think Khan is a heavier and faster shooter than Diaz. If Khan has a CHIN, I feel Khan wins. His offense is simply faster and harder.

Khan will be the bigger man by 2-3 inches. This would be a dream fight and I don't think Diaz has ever faced the speed/power that Khan brings...

I don't see Khan struggling to go 12. His stamina is good and still improving...

It's the CHIN that is suspect. I really hope the Limond incident was isolated....

I'm doubting it though and even if Diaz doesn't have crushing power, he has more than enough POP, and more than Limond....

12-18 months and this is a dream fight......

I see I timed that comment very well [nothing like a bit of self praise].
Diaz beaten by the good but nothing special Nate Campbell at the weekend.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 968 ✭✭✭ODD-JOB

Yeah ,..... actually Nate campbelll won it much more convincinly than the scores suggested.

It was though , one of the best fights ive seen this year !!
Nate Campbell is one angry guy ,.... there's a clip of him and Bernard dunne sparring on the net somewhere.
Dunne actually gave a fairly decent account of himself on that occasion, as Nate treated it like a full-on fight.

So, now Khan has the chance to go after N.Campbell for a belt ?
