I am currently delving into the area of food photogrpahy for a final year college project. However I am finding it difficult to find affordable props such as plates, materials, teapots etc. I like the stlye of crockery they sell in Avoca but its too expensive to be buying, anyone have any ideas where I could find similar stuff at more reasonable prices??

Dunnes Home can be alright too - Though I haven't gone shopping for any of that craic in a while... Nor do I plan to!

There's a second hand homeware shop on Francis St. too, you'd never know what you'd pick up in there.

It's between Thomas St and the Coombe, on the town side, as opposed to the Kilmainham side! :)

or if you're anywhere near belfast, ikea do really cheap but really well designed plates and bowls

Or you could drive up there like I did last weekend

It's also worth checking out Tescos, yes, I know - but they do some different styles in the bigger stores that you can pick up pretty cheaply. TK Maxx is prolly your best bet though.

Out of interest, do you have any favourite shots/photographers that you're inspired by? It's something I'm really interested in too, and it seems there aren't a huge amount of great examples around - bar of course (yes everyone's going to groan because I'm on about him again) David Loftus, Jamie Oliver's photographer. He is something else, seriously.

I wouldn't say I particularly like any food photographer at the moment, a lotof cookbooks seem to have some great shots and a lot of okay shots if you know what I mean. I would certainly agree with you on Jamie Oliver's photographer, I think they are great.
I particularly like the photography of the food blogger Heidi Swanson, she does her own stuff and has some great recipes www.101cookbooks.com
For example this image of biscotti gets the taste buds going http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/000660.html
