hi, has anyone any experience volunteering in africa? particularly south/southern africa.

there's lots of programmes on the likes of i to i etc... but they're very expensive, and while i don't mind paying for my food and board, i feel these programmes are more interested in making money, than helping the locals.

somthing like building work for a few weeks?

I have done a lot of Volunteering though not in Africa. I have found some are indeed there to make a buck of you. Try VSO in mountjoy square they are the only ones I Trust, but even they don't have contacts everywhere so often have to use other agents. But at least they take people's opinions when they come back and stop working with 'rip-off' agencies.
If the VSO camp they recommend is affiliated to SCI then I can assure you it will be all above Board. VSO is the Irish branch odf SCI.
