McAvoy and Duff in Perrier's Bounty

    Source: The Hollywood Reporter

    February 8, 2008

James McAvoy and Anne-Marie Duff are in negotiations to star in Perrier's Bounty, to be directed by Ian Fitzgibbon from a script by Mark O'Rowe, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Set in contemporary Dublin, the script is billed as a fast-paced comedy thriller revolving around three unlikely fugitives on the run from a gangster named Perrier, who is desperate to retain his pride and money after the accidental murder of one of his loyal gang.

    I hope this movie happens

"Comedy thriller" usually means it will be neither funny nor thrillling.

Michael owes money to Dublin's meanest gangster, Darren Perrier. When the debt is called in Brenda, Michael's recently "dumped" and suicidal best friend, accidentally shoots dead one of his goons. To make matters worse Michael's estranged father, Jim,
arrives just in time to witness the scene. With a bounty on their heads Michael, Jim and Brenda flee to the mountains.

On the run with his eccentric father, who's convinced he'll die the next time he sleeps, and an increasingly morose Brenda, Michael is about to lose his mind. But as the net tightens and the helter-skelter chase reaches its climax he is forced to forgive his father
and confront his true feelings for Brenda. With every hard man in Dublin on their trail it looks like Michael won't make it through the next 24 hours; however, The Grim Reaper and a gang of savage dogs have a funny way of intervening.

This could be pretty good (for an Irish gangster film!) It's released on March 26th but I might go and catch it at the Jameson International Film Festival if there are any tickets left. Btw love Cillian Murphy's Dublin accent! :D

Think it looks brilliant, really can't wait to see it.

    In Bruges meets Intermission?

    In Bruges meets Intermission?

Mixed with a good dash of I Went Down, hopefully!

Well what I got from the trailer is Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, lots of guns and lots of swearing.

    Which is excellent!

I went to the European Premier of this film last night and I have to say it's a very entertaining film. The plot is nothing new or ground breaking but it has enough interesting characters plus some witty dialogue
    She's duuuurty......like a bag of carrots
to put it head and shoulders above anything that has been produced in Ireland over the last few years.

    I'd highly recommend it!

Was at the Premier too. Hilarious. Jim Broadbent was the best imo.
When they're in the Garda car and they offer to swap, stiches I was! And the clampers!

I thought while there was some very funny moments and the cast was pretty good, the film itself was a bit underwhelming. The whole 'guy owes money to gangsters and gets up to hilarious antics while attempting to pay it back' thing has been done to death at this stage and the voiceover was definitely superfluous to needs.

Nowhere near the standard of something like In Bruges I thought. This needed a hell of a lot more imagination in the story to raise it above the bog standard urban gangster flick that it was.

Also - way too much use of the word 'man' in the dialogue.

looks good and it has a great cast

Gotta say I was pleasantly surprised by this. I was expecting it to be poor but it turned out to be very good. If you liked (yeah, I know cliché) In Brugges it's well worth a look!

Got tix through boards and REALLY enjoyed the film. Jim Broadbent is brilliant, despite the dodgy irish accent! It's like Intermission but darker and even funnier.

Thought this was bloody great. The best Irish film in quite a while in my opinion.

It probably is the best Irish film in a while, but to be honest I still didn't think too much of it.
I didn't like the way the characters talked, it was as if they exaggerated every sentence in order to come across as intellectual.
Like some sort of shakespearean gangsters or something...

Very good performance from Broadbent, felt he carried the film at times (even if his accent was a bit all over the place).

I've heard that the word 'man' is at the end of almost every sentence in this film. That would put me off straight away.

Saw this last night, enjoyed it a lot. Good caper really. Murphy was quite good and Gleeson's always reliable.

Looking forward to seeing this. Not a fan of Cillian Murphy's. Has a face that I just want to punch, but Gleeson is in it so thats enough for me.

This is true. It did get really annoying but the film is definitely worth seeing!

I found it pretty underwhelming. Broadbents accent really got to me. While I did laugh out loud at it a few times and there were some really hilarious bits, I just felt that it had been done before. On the whole it felt incomplete, predictable, and cheap and amateurish. Some peripheral characters were shockingly untalented actors (the guys who own the dogs, terrible), and the story was simple and clichéd, which in itself is not necessarily bad if it's used as a vehicle for great dialogue, but I felt that the dialogue was forced and unnatural, which I understand was the style and was done to make it funny, but it just felt so uninspired. Having watched In Brugges the other day, which is how you write dialogue, it pales in comparison. It was much more 'Man About Dog' than 'In Brugges', which was a crying shame as Gleeson is usually a dead cert, he's a fantastic actor.

I agree that Broadbent carried the movie at times, he was very funny. His accent really put me off though. It reminds me of when friends from Limerick try to do a Dublin accent. Cringe worthy.

I haven't seen this film yet but i have to say i don't like the look of it. It just looks like a crude amalgamation of films that have come before it and given an Irish angle. Jim Broadbent trying to stay awake for example. Isn't that just lifted from a Jason Statham movie from just a few years ago? Irish cinema is yet to find it's own voice i think.

I hope i'm proved wrong btw.

I saw it and have to say, I really enjoyed it.

Yes it had it;s flaws but so what?
The flaws for me were Jim Broadbents fluctuating accent(s), and the fact that every sentence ended in 'man'.

Other than that it was very funny, and has introduced a truck load of new slang to the Dublin lexicon.

It's David Holmes' "I heard Wonders" from the album "The Holy Pictures".

Thanks, I stumbled upon it a few weeks ago, actually. Cracking tune! :)

Watched this the weekend and I thought it was pretty crap. As stated before Jim Broadbent's accent was pretty dire. There was no need for him to use it in fairness. He could have used his normal accent, it wouldnt have taken away from the story.

I cant stand Don Wycherly anyway (for some reason the way he talks really annoys me. I know it is irrational but I cant stand him in anything he has been in) so that was another minus for the film.

The word 'Man' seemed to be used in every sentance with 'Dude' a close second. Pretty amaturish movie imo.

Just watched this with my gf at the weekend. Awful awful film. I fell asleep near the end. Very strange as most Irish films thatg make it to the cinema are quality but as a poster above said it was very amateurish. I wonder did any of the actors question why they were saying Man so much?

    Very disappointed :(

I should have heeded the alarm bells that sounded when my girlfriend told me a girl who worked in the dvd rental place recommended this to her. Alas, we watched this steaming pile of **** all the same. Awful, just bloody awful. A bad night all round for me as I also saw The Hangover. More generic, American, popcorn, college humour tripe. What was I thinking???

Just watched this terrible movie. Dialogue, plot, acting, accents, sets, editing, cliches, almost everything was bad. The films is nicely shot, but I'm afraid it's only the director of photography that can take any credit here.

Shame on the great cast (on paper) for getting involved is this. I suspect some may wake in sweats in the night for years to come out of regret.

Gave it a looksee there last week.

Enjoyed it for what it was, but there was excessive use of the word "man" everywhere.

Enjoyed it though and thought it was well worth a watch.

The man thing REALLY annoyed me though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

    Ditto on the man thing!
