Just wondering if anyone can explain why Channel 4 sometimes goes off the air in Ireland, with a message on screen along the lines of "This programme cannot be received in the Republic of Ireland". Was really p****d off one night last week when I settled down to watch the new series of Criminal Minds, only to have this message appear instead! :mad:Also noticed it happened last night when it should have been showing the film "Kingdom of Heaven" (which coincidentally was being shown on TV3 at the same time).

Discussed in great length and detail on the thread specifically for it.

And there you basically have your answer. TV3 had exclusive rights to show it in Ireland. This can't be enforced with analogue/terrestrial tv, but can with satellite/digital.

Before someone says it was on digital with NTL the cable and satellite rights are different.
