Hi guys, if you use this site, what do you use it for?

A lot of people in my company have it, some are very active on it and have lots of contacts etc. Some even have a link to their profile on the email signatures. What do you guys think?

I use it. It's a good way to search for candidates and also have candidates contact you (if you're in recruitment)

Otherwise it's a good way to make business contacts or keep in touch with ex-colleagues that you weren't close friends with but who you might want to say hi or get a reference off.

Yeah I noticed a couple of colleagues have quite a few recruiters on it.

Would you research candidates much on it watna?

No, not really. I find it a bit stalkerish, tbh! i work in internal recruitment though, i believe recruitment consultants (i.e. in agencies) would use it a lot more. Some candidates prefer to link in to find jobs too i.e. i want a job in Dell. I'll find the HR manager in Dell and introduce myself through mutual contacts.

You can give recommendations to colleagues you've worked with before which can be helpful. i.e. I worked with helimachopter on such and such a project. I found she/he was a fantastic leader and made sure it was delivered on time to a high standard.

They also advertise jobs on it and some of these you can only apply for if you've got x number of recommendations. It'll also tell you, when viewing a job add on linkedIn, how many people in that company are in your network so you can contact them too. When someone links in with you (accepts your invite) you can link in with connections 3 people away. So colleagues of colleagues of the person you know go in your network. It's fairly easy to build up a big network. I'm linked in to about 20 people but have a network of 5 or 600.

It can be a very useful tool.
