Watched this alongside the other four so can't distinguish individaul plotlines. On retrospect though I found the Richard Belzer cameo distracting:

Richard Belzer plays Dective Munch in "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit". He played the same character in "Homicide: Life on the Street" which was set in Baltimore's Homcide unit and was the work of "The Wire" creator David Simon. In it he bought a bar, alongside Detective Meldrick, played by Clark Johnson. In his cameo he plays an unnamed guy in the bar saying how he used to own a bar once, just as Haynes (played by Clark Johnson) walks in. It was too much of a gesture that took me out of the reality of the show for a few minutes which is something the show has never really done before (i.e. not using incidental music, etc)

Only gave this one a 3 , I'm afraid its getting a bit , to paraphrase someone else "Hollywood" now a small bit. Still gripping stuff but I suppose they have to try and wrap things up if its going to be the last series of it.

I'll comment more on this episode when I watch it again but I have to say the call McNulty made to Templeton had me in stitches and for me ranks as one of the Wire's top moments.

I guess Clay Davis getting off didn't really surprise anyone who's been watching the Wire for a while. Although it does give hope that Marlo is definitely going to get got as they have to balance out all the setbacks against some wins. Ideally Marlo goes down to the docks where Omar drops a shipping container on him :D. Ok, kinda getting carried away there :o.

Belzer's cameo didn't bother me that much as I haven't seen H:LotS or other shows he's been in - although I did see him when he turned up in an X-Files episode. What does annoy me though is all the cameos that Simon has given to his ex-Sun journalist buddies.

With the exception of Bill Zorzi who plays the state courthouse reporter they have all been extremely wooden. The guy who plays the education journalist couldn't have been more stiff and unnatural if he tried. Ditto with the two standing looking at the fire from the office window in the first episode of the season and that guy last week who stood grinning up at Gus like a loon while Scott was on TV was the final straw.

McNulty getting insulted when one of the detectives calls him "boss" was great. If McNulty got promoted to sergeant or colonel or something on the back of his "successful" resolution of the serial killer case then he'd find it a worse punishment than the marine unit. He'd finally be that which he despises the most - one of the bosses!!

The fake call was brilliant, loved the crazy ramblings in the closest right next door to the trap and trace. Clays court ramblings were brilliant. The fairytales he was coming out with were priceless. "What just happened?" "Whatever it was, they don't teach it in lawschool" :DOmar looks pretty immobile now, i'm not sure how much a threat he is to Marlo anymore. Greggs trying to put the furniture together was reminiscent of McNulty in the first season. She seems to be following his path; first the cheating, now the visits. I'm just waiting for her to become a drunk :) The clock code is something Freeman should be able to break, I wonder if he will go to Prez for help.
