Body Work quote

    Hi,

    i got a quote at the weekend to repair the 8-10 inch scratch on the driver's side rear panel of my SEC. The price was 450 euro.

    The price includes repair of the scratch plus repainting of the entire panel plus re-laquering of the adjacent boot lid and driver's door.

    The guy explained that this was the proper way to do it to get a good colour match.

    I'm not sure what the re-laquering is for or if it really is necessary to repaint the whole panel. The panel isn't damaged as such although the scratch is deep and goes down to the bare metal.

    I'm sure i can get the scratch touched up / repaired cheaper but is this a false economy ?

    Any advice gladly welcomed, thanks guys

    Osh

    Its is nessarsy to paint the whole panel i'm afraid! Usually i get jobs where the customer has scratched and dented the wheel arch you would have to go up to the quarter panel on the roof when laquering, the chap you went to see about your SEC is right i'm afraid, not what you or your wallet wants to hear but, You get what you pay for!

    Osh, is your paint colour one that is still available?

    Maybe finding a match has been factored in.

    Your laquer gives it its shine, paint work works like this;

    Primer
    Two to three coats of base coat (colour)
    Two coats of laquer.

    thanks !

    i think the paint should still be available. matching could have been factored in but he knew the price without even looking at the car, its just a fixed price per panel i think but maybe matching is part of that fixed price and it all just averages out.
