Tube Screamer Question.

I have a question about the tube screamer. I have heard lots about the TS808 and the TS9 and mods and all that stuff. The tube screamer was originally made famous in the TS808 model by Maxon right?

How different is the sound compared to other overdrive pedals on the market today. For instance I have a Vox Big Ben overdrive that I happen to like but I am not sure if it generates the same tone as a Tube Screamer. Is the TS very different to other overdrives?

If you were buying a TS today what model would you buy?

I wouldn't say the TS is very different to other overdrives....since it's original popularity, a lot of ODs would be based around a similar circuit.

Personally i've never been impressed enough with the cheap TS's, and wouldnt be bothered spending big bucks on a reissue or boutique copy....i'd probably go for something mid-range like a BBE Green screamer myself. I've used a couple of BBE pedals and the build quality was as high as i've seen.
