John Banville will be speaking for the Philosophy Society in Theatre P this Wednesday and 7pm.
Banville, winner of the 2005 Man Booker Prize, will be giving a lecture entitled "Beckett's Last Words."

    Anyone planning on going?

Distant relation, by marriage, of mine. Very intelligent man. Can come across as quite arrogant though. Would be worth a visit if you're literature-ly inclined. As you can see, I'm not.

    Why is this philosophy?
Should the ELS not be doing this?

    Did ELS book him?
(Why did JK Rowling speak for the L&H rather than the ELS?)

Anyway, he's speaking on Beckett, who is very philosophical an an existential sort of way.

The Sea is a brilliant book, expecting a large crowd?

No idea, I'm not a committee member anymore, what with being old and busy. These days I'm mostly in it for the philosophy.
That said, I'd be pretty suprised if we didn't get a good few out.
