    Hi,
Just signed up to the forum today. I'm interested in starting to do a bit of hillwalking and camping...but i'd rather do it with other people then on my own!!!(most of my friends and my other half will only consider sleeping in a tent if there is a music festival is involved!!)

I live in Maynooth in Kildare and was wondering if anyone knows a group that meets somewhere near there. Think it would be good to join a local group if possible, but meath or dublin would be ok too!

From the age of 9 up until I was about 19 I was in the Scouts/Venturers and took part in many hikes and camping trips,I even worked at national jamborees and the likes!!! But that was 10 years ago and I have more than lost my skills and my contacts in the scouting world!! But I would really like to get back into the great outdoors if possible!!Especially camping. The last big camping trip I did was a 3 month caming trip round south america in 2002, but that was with a tour company who supplied a guide, a tour bus and driver and all the tents & equipment etc. Everything since then has been 2 nights at a time at music festivals!! I want to get back into camping holidays but feel it would be best to join a group....but I do not want to re-join scouts. I just would not have the time to commit to the scouting life!

Would love to hear from anyone who knows where I might get started. I'm female, 28 and not at the peak of my fitness if you know what I mean!!

Great site by the way, have enjoyed reading other posts!!!

    Thanks:)

If you wanted a good way of getting into hilling walking Leenane, in Galway are running a walking festival the first week in May with different levels of walks so there is sure to be some that suit.

Given the number of posts on such issues as "what gear to get", "recommended outdoor stores and websites" and "contacts and links" maybe it's time to put up a sticky on this issues? There is already Contact links sticky so maybe a sticky on "Recommended gear and where to get it" and "The do's and dont's of hillwalking"?
