Ireland are doing well so far.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat. They are 112 for 5 off 40 overs. Three runouts so far, all credited to the Joyce twins. This is Ireland big game, as Pakistan are thought to be the principal rivals from the group.

Thanks for the link Randomer, knew the game was on but didn't realise there was ball-by-ball available.

It's vital for Ireland to qualify from this tournament, as it would be just reward for the hard work put in by all connected to the game. The standard of womens' cricket is getting better, and the exposure of being in the World Cup Finals would be a good boost to the game's profile.

You are doing the umpires course, aren't you?

Sadly, it appears to have all gone pear-shaped for Ireland.

They limited Pakistan to 165/9 in 50 overs, with 6 of the wickets being run out (5 of them credited to Isobel Joyce!). Their batting was progressing nicely into the 40s, but wickets falling regularly was their undoing, finishing on 108 all out, with 6.3 overs remaining.

Based the scorecard from Cricinfo, high points would be Isobel's fielding, Ciara Metcalfe's bowling (2 for 27 off 10), the Whelan sisters' bowling (0 for 28 off 10 for Heather, 1 for 29 off 9 for Jill), along with the Joyce sisters' batting (36 for Cecilia from opener, 29 from Isobel at number 4).

The low point would be nobody from number 5 down getting into double figures with the bat, surprising as there are some very good batsmen in the side. I suspect the pitch might have been interesting, as the fielding side appeared to be on top for most of the time.

An unfortunate start, but there's the talent and the skill in the side to bounce back, not to mention the desire & will to win. Good luck to them in the rest of the competition.

Disclaimer: I'm in an office in Dublin looking at the Cricinfo scorecard, so I may have missed something!
