really gets on my nerves. my dad buys this paper and takes everything they say as gospel.

in recent weeks they've seriously got a beef with mac notebooks.

this guy he shall remain nameless, decides to buy a macbook over in the states to save money. fair enough up until this point. first thing he decides to do is to get windows xp running on it, again fair enough a lot of business applications will only run on windows. then drama happens, it freezes just at the end of the installation, of course he blames everything but himself and the windows xp cd, meaning he just blames apple.

he then goes on to say after five hours of constant freezing, pulling the battery out to turn off, he decides to boot up OS X, of course we all know that booting OS X can be bothersome especially if you have a botched an install of another OS previously.

he then confesses, if he wanted this much hassle he should of bought a €500 dell laptop.

now i'm not trying to come across as mac's are brilliant and indestructable, they are good at what they do, but they are electronics, they can and will behave abnormaly in some cases, but i can't just help thinking that this clown's words will be taken as gospel by the joe soap public and put them off buying apple products.

In fairness when I installed WinXP on my Macbook last week I balls it up twice times....why because I didn't read the instructions and for example in one case I assumed I can just leave the mac created parition without having to format it again...how wrong was I :)

    Lesson learned :)

In my own experience most people run into problems with stuff like this because they just don't do it right,

yeh it went balls up for me too, but i don't see you or me writing an article about it that damages the macbook's reputation because we didn't bother reading instructions

its easier for these people to blame somebody else rather then themselfs and if they can make some money from it then in there view its happy days :)

Yeah I was reading this article today. The guy clearly has very limited experience with macs, plus he obviously hadn't read any of Bootcamp's instructions. He didn't know to hold option at startup and didn't understand why he couldn't get back into OSX but he blames it all on the macbook of course.

The sad thing is that this idiot is responsibly for editing one the Post's tech sections.

The really sad thing is that HE doesn't know he is an idiot !!! I got bootcamp to work first time !

Of course it begs the question - if he just wanted to run Windows why the feck did he buy a Mac ?!

Better yet - ask him to try to get his Dell laptop to run Mac OSX Leopard!!! We'll see then if he's a man or a mouse - or a complete technophobe like most tech writers I read . . . !! Muppet !

It worries me that these people have the attention of the majority . . . People then buy Macs expecting the worst :mad:

    Don't get me started . . . . too late . . . I'm pi55ed !

    :D - It is, but it's possible ;):D

The point is I'd bet most Mac users could achieve this before most Windows users. I've done it, I know !

Yeah I was reading this article today.

Sorry to ask a noob question but I picked up the Sunday Business Post today and cannot find this article :o
Can you tell me which section it's in, there are several

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,496 ✭✭✭Mr. Presentable

Wow, I read their section on Apple machines last week and thought they tried really hard to put a positive spin on them. And that's the thing - they're a bit specialist, a bit more expensive and a bit more designer. They'll be a long time becoming the common choice.

As for the article with the guy and XP, why, that's just foolishness - like trying to run a deisel on petrol

Cheers guys, just found it. Once a month the SBP has a glossy magazine for IT so I thought I didn't get that in the shop.

Wow, it's a pretty scathing attack on Apple, very harsh! Like any corporation Apple should be open to criticism when deserved but that article was pointless.
What I'm wondering is why does a journalist for a national paper claim he dodged customs duty (yes, I know every does it) for all to see. Strange

For a "technology expert" he doesn't seem to be quite the expert

Hopefully the revenue are compiling a file as we speak of all the bits and bobs he has brought in from foreign waters, and his toys get taken away from him soon enough :D

Do the revenue have auctions .. might be a macbook up for grabs ;)

the sunday business post are constantly sub-conciously bad mouthing mac's , they compared prices accross mid range notebooks a while back and got confused between the macbook and macbook pro , "we expected a €1899 notebook to have more than a combo drive and an 80gb hard disk"

i dont know why they do it, ive been in their offices and there are less windows machines than macs there, dont know why they do it

I used to work for one of the mobile networks, and this guy would consistently get stuff wrong about the handset features, the percentage of coverage that each network had, and the price plans - he's useless at details, and even worse, he seems to think that slagging everything off (that he happens not to like) makes him look clever and "ahead of the game", whereas it just make him look biased.

After seeing the mistakes in the mobile stuff and knowing what the reality was, I wouldn't trust anything that he writes, as it could be one of his "mistakes"...

If this guy writes for this paper on latest technology then i know him and have delt him through business complaining about something else. This made me smile, he hasnt a clue and how he writes for that paper i'll never know, he seems to think he knows it all, when he hasnt a clue and blames everyone but himself, this again only proves i was right.

No, but O2 have an agreement with Wifi operator The Cloud so that iPhone owners get free Wifi access through that network.

yeah but if the cloud or a similar service showed up in the morning we'd get it, its just that we dont have a service like that, but saying free wifi isnt a good angle on it, if thats how its put it sounds to me like some people will be scared thinking they cant use fre wifi in their own home networks, the business post really really needs to do more research,
