So its just come to the half way point.

What do people think of it so far?

I'm giving it 4/5 and if I'm honest I dont think its as good as last season. I think its go maybe a small bit two Hollywood. I just don't believe some of the stuff that has happened so far and I never had that problem in the past

I'd be inclined to agree with you, but the show has a habit of coming into it's own in the last few episodes each season so I'll reserve my judgement until the season's end.

I don't believe it's up to S4's impossibly-high standard but it's still excellent. The only think I didn't like was the cameo in the seventh episode and that's because it took me out of the reality of the show.

As a matter of interest which bit can't you quite swallow? The media thing does happen - just check out the movie "Shattered Glass" where it occurred at a far more prestigious paper.

    2 things:
    1. Omar's lucky escape
    2. McNulty's serial killer

Big parts of the show yet to me they dont seem to be plausible

Yep the serial killer thing seems a bit far fetched though I think they're managing to reel it in now. Even McNulty thinks it's going too far.

Like mccafferty I'll be reserving my judgement till the season is over but, that said, the season so far has been a bit underwhelming.

Well the Omar thing was just a nod to the lore of the character, and what he has become, especially sice he was supposed to be killed off after 8 episodes of season 1.

The media story is based on something Simon actually experienced as a reporter for the Sun.

And the serial killer story is out there but by episode 7 you come to accept it and I can see McNulty doing what he has done, based on his drinking history and how the system always screws good cases.

I'll reserve judgement until it's over but so far it's looking like it could be the worst season.
    Still good though obviously. :)

That would be season 2 for me

I think it's pretty good so far, not superb as usual, but it usually takes the whole season to see what it's really like. I didn't mind the part about Omar jumping out the window, he's pretty much indestructible at this stage anyway, plus it's not like he just walked away unscathed anyway.

I wasn't, and am still not, to sure about McNulty's serial killer. It's stretching things a bit much, though he was right about it getting the money and overtime needed to work cases, but it's also taken on a life of it's own and I'm wondering where it'll all end.

My only real reservation for this season is one many have - the serial killer concotion. Whilst a journalist can - and has - successfully spun fibs, the serial killer angle is almost farcical. And yet, at the same time, I can't quite see how it's flawed and what makes it impossible - they seem to have covered all their bases. Perhaps it's going to end badly for McNulty - the pay off will be interesting.

I don't really have a problem with the serial killer anymore. At the start it was very far fetched but the fact that Templeton helped them enormously has made it much more believable. Plus the fact that Bunk was so against it was good. Lester really wants Marlo and has nothing to lose really as he's at the end of his career. McNulty is just being himself really, pissed half the time. As for giving this season a rating, i'll wait to see how it ends first but the first half has been good prob 4/5.

You don't need to be Lester to start guessing what happens in this episode.
Maybe a mod could edit the thread title to say that it may contain E08 spoilers or else open an E08 thread?

Btw, that was the best episode of the season thus far.

Yeah defintley curious but my couple of hours of mind numbing study a day is enough to distract me.

The title says that there maybe spoilers within.

I said in the other thread to let the dust settle on S05E07 before starting a tread on S05E08.

5x07 has been available, in some form or another, for weeks now - surely we can discuss the latest episode now? There's a fair few who have seen it already.
