PS3 Freezing

Nephew has ps3. It works for a while but graphics freeze after a while and console wont respond. It seems to be an over-heating problem, but I'm not sure. Started happening after a download. He had just purchased a new game (Juiced 2). Any ideas?

Try resetting PS3 settings in System settings. There is also a rebuild option that completely wipes the PS3 and installs everything from scratch.
If that doesn't work, ring Sony or return to shop.

Thanks, will try. It seems to freeze when warmed up. I will have to try it tomorrow when it is cold.

Is the fan working at all. You should be able to feel a good amount of hot air come out the top if vertical or the right if lying flat.

Fan is working. Froze on startup. Not able to get past login. It seems to be a hardware issue. There isn't a reset button somewhere that resets everything back to default?

    Not without being logged in.
When turning on PS3, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to reset display settings. Might get you some further but it does sound like bad unit.

Where are you storing the unit? It shouldn't be kept inside a TV unit or anything like that. It should be sitting out in the open with plenty of ventilation.
