I was watching this movie earlier. I must admit I did enjoy it somewhat. So much so than I had thought. But, am I the only one who noticed the political threads throughout the movie.

There's spoilers, so read at your own risk.

Ryan Reynold's William's ambition in life was to be the next president of America. So he joins Clinton's (Bill) campaign in '92 to get him elected. His friend is a black dude, who at some point makes reference to being the first black president. The first half of the film take place with the democrats.

Now, what I found odd is the timing of the movie's release; it coincides with the year the democrats are trying to get the presidency of America. Their 2 front-runners? Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Hillary is even mentioned during the movie.

So, is this movie some sort of "propaganda" tool by the Democrats? Or am I reading way too much into it.

Imo, most mainstream American films tend to have some kind of political undertone. Usually it can be ignored. Some are just ridiculously blatent. Given the release date of this film, it doesn't seem unrealistic that it may have been used as a "propaganda tool". Personally, I thought it was a "propaganda tool" for Valentines day after watching the trailer.

It's to give the story "depth" but it didn't work - that movie was awful.

If it is, it's obviously not well crafted. It starts as a tribute to Billy C. But soon enough as Will's personal love life begins to unravel throughout Clinton's presidency, he realizes that even the man who he campaigned so hard for in '92 didn't turn out to be what he had hoped.
And the black man in it reminds me very much of "Primary Colors", not really pro-Democrat flick.

Imo, the Clinton stuff is just to give some obvious '90s connection, like a Nirvana song in April's apartment.
