upc DVR - usb - external harddrive?

Just wondering if the usb on the upc dvr is any use.. and can it be connected to an external hard drive to play files from the hard drive onto ur tv

Yeah doesn't seem to do anything. Would be real handy to be able to archive to a PC to archive some stuff. Don't tell UPC but when I first got me DVR I took out the HD and connected it to my computer and while Vista (and Mac Leopard) could see it as connected hardware I couldn't do anything to get a PC to read any files on it....
