    Hi

    Hoping for some help here.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop and I use Dell's Quickset program to manage the power settings. I have a custom setting of:

Close the lid = 'No action'
    Press power button = 'Hibernate'
    Press suspend key = 'Standby'
Turn off hard drive = 'Never'
Turn off display = 'After 15 minutes'
    System suspend = 'Never'
Timeout to Hibernate never = 'Never'
    Display Brightness = 'Maximum'

I am constanly having to reapply these settings. They do save but a wile later, I close the lid only to find that standby mode kicks in and once restarted I find the quickset setting are back on default.

    Anone any ideas???

    Jarvis

Uninstall the dell bloatware & use control panel

yes if it can be done in windows control panel dont bother with the dell crap. I think theres a dell decrpifier or something that makes it easy to delete al that crap of the computer

I would advise against uninstalling Dell QuickSet if you wish to use all Fn keys, but definately try changing power settings from within windows in control panel as mentioned above!

I have uninstalled Dell Quickset and the fn keys still work.
I am now using the control panel power settings, however these also keep resetting to defaults.
The only other program that I think may be interfering is my Ati catalyst control centre. Is this possible. Anymore ideas on how to resolve?

Thanks for all the replies so far

I empasised all function keys... My xp install wouldnt allow to turn on/off wireless, show battery dialog or even the handy eject cd thing w/out quickset, sure sound, brightness etc will work but you wont see on screen visual representation of levels

This is true. That is what is happening. The FN controls I want to use, do actually work but I no longer see the volume bar (for example) on the screen.
Still looking for solution to problem.
