Just booked a few days in Vienna and have not been here since a teenager

Going with Miss Gunner but we are not into Museums but may try the opera

Will be there for Paddys day

So looking for things to do and places to stay or maybe a day trip to Salzburg ? Have been to Innsbruck previously back in inter railing days but any other places

It seems to be full of culture but we dont wont to be 'arted' out if there is such a thing

    Thanks

It's a bit arty unfortunately and the night life scene is much smaller than say Germany. They don't tend to "do" bars as much as other nearby countries. Flex is a reasonably good club, bars were few and bar between for me to recommend any.

You should definitely get in a concert at either the Musikverein or one of the other smaller places.

Also, make sure to visit the Sacher Hotel and have some of the famous Torte. And go and see the Third Man as well.

Saw the third man over the weekend on the net may go again in Viennna ?

Yes it does seem to be cultured alright maybe I might be converted to Symphonies by Mozart or Beethoven

Have to see what's on and if I need to bring the proper attire or just stay in the pub

Accommodation seems to be expensive in the city centre but expected that found one but have to pay
for it fully. Bit dubious of this but hotel does get good reviews on trip advisor

May take day trips to other parts but if anyone else has any other things to do see then let me know

Don't want to start a new post in 'things to do' forum

    Cheers

Where is the hotel situated? Or what's the name. If it's in postcode 1010, that's fantastic. If it's in 1020 to 1090 that should be fine too, check especially if near the Ubahn. Anything else is probably a bit far out.
Here are some earlier threads about Vienna.

    Hotel Alpha

www.hotelalpha.at in district 1080 so pretty near

Just wary of paying in full straight away...as cannot cancel and get refund

Found website www.viennawalks.com and they do the third man tour so may do that

Still trying to avoid museums but looking for any tours on Vienna during war or maybe something on Mozart which I believe is everywhere over there from mugs to dinner plates

Pity, we stayed in Das Tyrol hotel, which was in the city but very reasonable, and had sauna/steam room...it is in the Museum quarter, however it's on the Mariahilfer Strasse, loads of shops, and the U-Bahn right beside it, which takes you anywhere, to Stefanplatz, the Opera etc

I'd recemmend going to the zoo however (get off the U-Bahn at Schonnbronn and it's righ there) . We ended up spending the day there, its amazing and worth a day trip if youve time.

    Enjoy!

Flanagans is actually very good for Paddys day, I have been there on a Paddys and also on a New Years Eve (the best time to be in Vienna) In the Prater there is an amusement park which is good fun for half a day. If you can find out, Bockshorn is Vienna's smallest Irish pub and possibly Europe's for that matter. It is off the Stephans Platz but I cant remember the name of the laneway. You will have a great time there, head down the Bermuda triangle for your late pints, whoever said there was no nite life in Vienna is talking through his hole, its a beautiful city explore it and you will not be disappointed
