Yes indeed folks its that time of the month again, and we’re back with another skillful display on the 1 and 2’s. Before i get into that theres another podcast i’d like to let you guys know about, Chop Shop member Stevie G from Cork has set up his own podcast which features mixes from what seem to an endless collection, i guess its testament to G’s time in the DJ biz. Theres every kind of mix from Undergound Hip Hop to Party **** to D&B to Down Tempo and everything in between, so please feel free to support one of Corks longest serving DJ’s here. And don’t worry Stevie has reassured me that he’ll still be dropping mixes for the Shop! Now getting back to the topic at hand, this is the 12th volume of our little podcast and this time round i’ve the pleasure of introducing first time Chop Shopper Fruit Man from the nations capital! Dudes a chess adict who just happen to have a serious jones for scratching records, his electic taste in music covers all thats good from the world of funk, soul, hip hop, reggae, electronic & afro beat. You may have heard Darren on Near FM helping out his good friend Paul Trimble, Fruit Man will also be starting his out show called Double Down which will kicking off in mid March, more details when i have em…………………………………………

Dublin based producer & DJ, The Fruitman, delivers his hand picked harvest for Edition 12 of The Chop Shop. Entitled “Comfort For A Trouble Mind” the mix features a great late night listening assortment with a varied pallet of Juicy tunes sliced ‘n’ diced with great precision & interjected with skilfully placed cuts & drops. Citing Gilles Peterson & Mr Scruff as influences it’s clear as to what pedigree of music we’re dealing with here but what sets him apart from his peers is an approach which is all his own & an abundance of skill. This bunch of tracks comes with no slim pickings & features soul staples such as Curtis Mayfield, Ann Peebles, Gwen McCrae ,here with her timeless “90% Of Me Is You” & the captivating bass of Aaron Neville’s mighty “Hercules”.

The Hip Hop crop are more of the conscious variety & come from steadfast artists such as People Under The Stairs, Slum Village, Edan & Jneiro Jarel’s creative entourage Shape Of Broad Minds here with the deep “Changes” fans of MF Doom may already be aware of this outfitthrough previous collaborations. 3 tracks from Wu- Tang head honcho RZA are also incorporated & no discerning beat digger’s compilation would be complete without acknowledgement to the enduring talent of J Dilla included here with his L.V. Johnson sampling “Airworks” which is preceded by the original from Johnson. Smoother laid back vibes come in the shape of the chilled Jazz/Funk of Bob James; the Funk/Hop of the Madlib produced “Beautiful Mind” by Dudley Perkins & Mandrill’s reflective “I refuse to smile”. With .Main Ingredient’s take on Seals & Crofts’ “Summer Breeze” & “Sunshower”, covered more recently by M.I.A,. & here in it’s original form by Dr. Buzzards Original Savannah Band also adding to the relaxed tone.

As always there’s more I could go into but too much information could distract from the listening pleasure. This is an excellently programmed set & one I strongly recommended you give a whirl & for more on The Fruitman check his Myspace page. The man from Del Monte “He say yes”
