Chairs - a group purchasing scheme?

Obviously this has more general applications than just poker, but I think poker players may have the requisite cash and desire.

I've been looking to get a better chair than the fairly terrible argos one I have now. Considering the amount of time I'm going to spend with my ass on this device, I don't mind spending some money on comfort.

The problem is that we seem to get raped on high-quality chairs in Ireland, mjflood quoted be 810 ex vat (base, you'd spend more) for an aeron and 540+ for a freedom. I have a huge problem with forking out 1k for something that clearly isn't worth that much.

This lead me to the obvious conclusion that it may be better import them directly. However, this would obviously require more than one chair to be purchased for it to be economical. I haven't looked into pricing, so it may work out to be infeasible anyway, but this thread was just to gauge interest.

Would anybody be interested in this? They *will* be expensive, just not as expensive as buying local.

yea im interested, but it would depend on the chair you would be going for, personally i would prefer something like this instead of a freedom type chair, looks confortable :)

I think I'd want to have a sit in any chair to decide if it was any use.

One of the managers in a place I used to work had a '€1,000 chair', it was some mesh design thing intended for people with bad backs/potential bad backs.

    Anyhow, it was meh.

slightly OT: could someone recommend me a good high-backed leather chair for around 200?

Okay, it's Friday so I'm a little sauced, but to address this if you wanted to try out one of the chairs mjflood apparently have a showroom. However, people seem to swear by some of these chairs. If by 'mesh' you mean something like the aeron, then it isn't designed for people with back problems.

Also, I'm not sure if all of them would have to be the same chair. It may work out that just the fact of buying them out of Ireland could account for enough discount vs irish prices, so there would be no need for bulk discount. (there are issues such as packing that will come into play here)

Nicky, is that really what you're looking for in a computer chair? It's pretty far from what I'm looking for.

Try Desk City in Clondalkin Unit 6 Oak Road Business Park, Oak Road, Dublin 12
    Phone +353 (0)1 4299480.

They can sometimes have decent quality second hand chairs.

Another place you could find a gem at the right price is Flanagans Furniture on Deerpark Rd Mount merrion.

The other option is to keep an eye on hotel content auctions - burlington stuff could be coming up soon. http://www.proauction.ltd.uk/index.asp

i was planning on getting a freedom chair to finish off the setup, just looking around at different sites there seems to be a huge difference in prices.

If you had the time your could call into Buckleys in Sandycove. They have an auction every Thursday at 14:30 (viewing on Wed and Thu). You might have to call out for weeks before something suitable is for sale, but you can sometimes almost steal it if no one else is interested. If you can't be at the auction on Thursday you can ask for a pink slip and leave your bid.

I got about 20 feet of bookcases, and two tables and twelve chairs for small money. My sister got a six-seater black leather L-shaped sofa for €340 (as good as new).

Have you ordered this chair? When you get it could you do a little review please? Would definately like to replace the chair I am sitting on as I feel it is permanently scarring my buttocks.

sitting on that chair now, its good, not great. the back of the chair goes too far up your back IMO, which results is not being able to tilt it back and forward to my satisfaction. The arm rests are a bit on the lose side, but should be able to tighten them. The seat is not really mesh, more of a cushion, which is gay. The back is mesh though, which is good. Im sure there are better chairs out their for the price but i aint going to return it.

Scrap that, its ****, returning it to them

We had people in to work to show us chairs. They were really good.
Everything was adjustable, position and tension, length etc.
    Here is one,
    http://www.ergofurnituresystems.ie/ergo/Main/Products-Nimbos-Seating.htm

The website doesn't appear to have all the products on it. They had two better ones, full back leather one and a funky moulded one.

    edit:http://www.silver-chair.net/
    Thats another one
