So reading spoilers for the upcoming replicator arc, Gateworld reported that Higginson has refused to return!
After her cameo at the end of 'Be All My Sind Remember'd' I would have thought she was keen to come back...but it looks like it was all part of her fiendish plot for revenge!

Now they are left with this plot and the lead has pulled out.
She came out and said she wasn't happy with the way her and her character were treated so I hope this is a kick back from her!

    What do you all think?

I think she could easilly come back if the writers got off their holes.

The clones the reps created were just that - clones constructed biologically using nanites: they arent actually nanite based. So it should be easy to say she becomes 100% human again.

I imagine this was how they planned
to bring back our dear Carson Beckett

But how if Higginson doesn't want to return? She didn't like the fact that she was told her character was being written out at the end of S3 but that they'd fit her in for a few. She felt it wasn't very professional. The show creators said that this was normal and that, in fact, they had given her more notice than was really necessary. Neither side is happy - not good grounds for her returning.

Aside from the contractual need to employ Amanda Tapping IMO she has brought next to nothing to Atlantis. For the time AT has been on screen they could just have easily given her a ship and had her fly in every couple of episodes. Mitch Pileggi had almost as much screen time in Season 2.
IMO Higginson offered considerably more. I can understand her reaction and think most people would feel the same. I am disappointed to see that she has gone and found her a far more credible leader of Atlantis. The fact that Woolsey is coming to Atlantis sums up the overall usefulness of the Carter role this season.

The Stargate team still has that tendency to dig itself into a hole - see the mess that was SG-1 Seasons 9 & 10 not to mention bumping off of perfectly good characters - mostly doctors.

Swap in Jessica Steen :D Hell, they've done it once already.

They did the same thing to Rainbow Sun Franks - I was just rewatching season 2 there: its as if they told him yea we're going to knock you off unless you can out-act this guy [Ronan] - ironically he got his ass handed to him. Even his own team turned against him :p

Well either she'll return or she won't. Frankly, I've never heard of anyone walking off a stargate set deliberately/out of the blue. Has it happened before?

Shanks in Season 6? He wanted to "explore other possibilities" and they left him with a way back.

It's happening right now! Higginson has refused to come back!

And yeah, Shanks did it too because he didn't like what they were doing with his character.

It's kind of silly imo, it's not their character.

I think another point in this discussion is that Carter is leaving Atlanits at the end of this series and Woolsey's gonna rule Atlantis!!! Then the whole Pegasus Galaxy!
Also theres gonna be MASSIVE character changes next season

There have been 'MASSIVE' character changes every season.

Also, in a Gateworld interview with Don Davis last year, I recall him speaking out about network interference and saidthe Stargate folk did little to challenge them.

There havent been MASSIVE character changes every season...maybe a new character every 2 seasons...but season 5 is rumoured to have 7 main characters

Gateworld has cracked a rumour about Tori in the above link.
She won't rejoin the cast as a series regular and will not be commanding Atlantis again, but the actress behind Dr. Elizabeth Weir will return as a guest star for an on-going story arc in Season Five. Check out the last 60 seconds of "Be All My Sins Remember'd" for more on that.

i thought she was not even going to come back for the guest star? as a kind of fu because Tori had said it was unproffisional what the writers/exec had done.

might depend on the dates of the announcement i posted and the one where she told them to f off.

For bleed'n hell, that's what the whole thread is about.
They wrotre a new arc to bring back Higginson, and now that it's too late to change it, she said she's not interested, and simultaneously speaks out about her sacking.

It serves them right, they basically told her it was recurring or nothing for season four so they could bring in their beloved Samantha Carter in order to get SGI fans watching, don't know why they'd think this'd work, casting Ben and Claudia didn't bring masses of Farscape fans to SG1. They then plan a story arc for season five without ensuring that Torri was available, normally episodes are only written after an actor is confirmed, they basically assumed that Torri would come running but she threw a spanner in the works instead.

Mallozzi is a moron, he should think before he types, he:

*announced Claudia Black's first pregnancy in his blog which he hastily had to take down (both Ben and Claudia are immensely private people)
*called the fans "shrill and uninformed lemmings" after rumours started that Beckett was going to be killed off
*"we were nothing but gracious to her" referring to Torri, since when was an ultimatum (sp?) considered gracious?

I'd say she planned to lead them on.

So, ad her to the list that now comprises,
    Torri Higginson
    Paul McGillion
    Rainbow Sun Francks
    Teryl Rothery
    Don S Davis (kinda)
    Corin Nemec

All of which were killed off or replaced for stupid political reasons.

Rainbow was let go because he was constantly turning up late for work during season one and when he came back for his season two episodes the same thing happened

Corin knew he was a goner pretty much from the start. He was a great addition lets be fair, but the whole savedanieljackson.com kicked off before his episodes even aired. He never had a chance and he bowed down pretty gracefully with a follow-up episode.

Rainbow, was a tool. I hated him. The characters he was with hated him in the end. Even Ronan got to own on him a bit. I dont blame him for not coming back for a follow up.

Paul McGillon, same story as Daniel Jackson really except in my opinion they did of Carson in a very weird and sudden way. couldve done without it. Either way he has opening to come back full time and the audience would welcome it.

teryl rothery had the best death in the series so far. She retired. It was very well written . She is still fondly remembered but I do not see a need for her to have stayed.

Don S Davis was getting old. Retired. Has come back for numerous episodes. The same applies to Rick Anderson.

So really, Torri Higginson and Rainbow Francks are the only 2 to stick it to the producers. There was nothing political about Rainbow's departure: the character sucked. He was supposed to be a baby teal'c and it failed miserably. Good riddance. Torri in my opinion is just being whiney. She had a good run but had a terrible knack for over-acting in her scenes. Not sure what I mean? Take a look at any of her 'inspiring' lectures or speeches she gave as Weir.

    What reasons are they exactly?

So, ad her to the list that now comprises,
Torri Higginson - disposed of because the network wanted Tapping instead.
Paul McGillion - Studio wanted someone killed off.
Rainbow Sun Francks - Character with depth replaced for demographic friendly tough guy.
Teryl Rothery - Killed off because of network pressure.
Don S Davis (kinda) - left because of how Rothery was treated,
Corin Nemec - replaced by the man he was supposed to replace.

What's worse is that all of the above, (with the exception of Jonas), were interesting and original characters, replaced by generic, done to death before characters like Ronin and Vala.

Im just rewatching 4x08 (when Todd was re-introduced, and Woolsey comes for an audit) and I have to say, he does at several points during the episode give me the feeling like he's going to make a good pick for commander of Atlantis.

The only thing that worries me is him in that cheap uniform >.< is fugly. Otherwise he even steals the limelight from Sam when he's around. A good pick. And he knows his ****, already knows the personnel to a T, and doesnt mind butting in to add his opinion and, unlike Colonel Caldwell, doesn't actually crave the power for power's sake.

That and he still carries a little EMH moxie.

I dunno, between Woolsey and Todd and Shepphard and McKay, there may just be enough left in this series in terms of talent. Not to mention the love-or-hate characters Michael and Ronan, etc. and oh yeah Zalenka falls in there somewhere.

The stupid, cheap-ass scifi jumpsuits have been holding Atlantis back since the very beginning.

In fairness, SG-1 had similar stylings.

Yeah, why do they change the unifroms every year?

    Awful awful uniforms.

    Damn, gotta hate stargate.

The uniforms in SG1 looked grand. Not pretty, but pretty standard looking military fare.

The ones in Atlantis with the Star Trek-style colour coded triangles look ridiculous.
