This just happened this morning, the bike was fine last night... when i'm holding the clutch in and kick it into 1st, the bike jumps and cuts out. Could the clutch cable have come loose or something?
    Thanks for any help.

Could be the stand safety switch...?

If the bike "jumps" before cutting out it's quite possibly the clutch not disengaging which could indeed be caused by a cable problem (needing adjustment) but a totally broken cable would result in no resistance in the clutch lever when pulled and you'd notice that immediately.

Are you sure it's really "jumping" and not just engaging gear? Bikes will 'jump' a little bit when you kick into gear fom neutral even with the clutch disengaged-it's because of the way bike clutches are made/operate in oil that causes this and why when even in neutral the rear wheel will want to rotate and will do so if the bike is completely off the ground.

Edit: If you have a centre stand or can otherwise get the rear wheel off the ground, repeat the procedure of putting it into gear and if it cuts out it's unlikely to be a clutch problem and more likely to be a sidestand switch fault.

You would be suprised how many people get caught out with this one. Especially "Newbies":D

Ive noticed a lot of bikes do "jump" a little when you engage first with the side stand down. I would be looking at the switch first. Just open the switch by taking the wires off it and see if all is ok then.
