Sound problem with Dell Inspiron 6400

    Hi,
    My laptop is playing up on me. Firstly, over the past few weeks, it has become slower in starting up. I removed the few files I had on the desktop and only left the few shortcuts I use.

    Yesterday, I noticed a series of background beeps (three beeps in a row at regular few second intervals) while using the internet. I just ignored them. Eventually the sound stopped working. I did a system restore to a few days ago and that did the trick...

    ....Until today...
    Today, the beeping started again and the sound stopped working. I did an error check of the C: drive. I wasn't there when the scan finished so I'm not sure what result came up but the computer booted up and I kept using it from there. The sound is working again. However...

    I am now hearing what I can only describe as a 'gun-shot' sound roughly every 20 seconds. The first one gave me a fright!

    I have free AGV and it's not finding any problems.

    Any idea what could be up?

    Should I check the bios? If so, how?

    Also, I remember getting a Win Sys 32 error message at some point, it said the computer needed to restart. I have XP.

    I turned the sound off for about an hour cos it was annoying me. It's back on now and there's no beeping or shooting going on.

    Just hope it doesn't start farting at me next!
