Macbook or Macbook Pro

I'm looking to get a mac laptop. The main reason for getting one is I do a lot of audio production. I mainly use Cubase but have been advised to get logik. I study music technology in college and the system that's used there is mac Pro.

Will the Macbook be powerful enough to run Logik or would I better off going for a macbook pro?

I don't need the massive 15inch screen or high graphics card, so I would prefer to get a macbook (cheaper!).

i would imagine the macbook will run logik fine but if you can shell out the extra bucks, the pro is well worth it. the more you spend now the more time it'll take before you need to upgrade... in theory (it's apple, you'll want the new one next year or whenever :p)

Go for the Pro, I got the MacBook last May and I regret not getting the MacBook Pro :(

A MacBook with bumped up RAM (do this yourself) will run Logic fine. Wait awhile on purchasing a MacBook Pro unless having the newest version of stuff doesn't bother you.

I use a Macbook Pro for some serious number crunching at times and have found it great. The built-in graphics aren't a lot to write home about but having a separate GPU does help with any OpenGL app.

Also check out the refurbished shop regularly, I got my boss a 17' macbook pro on there for less than the price of a new 15' a few weeks back, granted the slightly older model with the x1600 graphics, 2gb, Superdrive, 160gig.

He's well happy, and it was cheaper than a lower spec Lenovo !!, also he's enjoying OSX as a first timer (ironically we resell MS products hehe).

Logic will run on either, but you are better off with an MBP. You might wanna try running an search on the forum here, there are several threads on what machines are best for audio production. My own area is Mus Tech and there have been a lot of discussion threads on here about the matter, better off searching for more answers that progressing with yet another thread IMO.

A quick question, in terms of portability? Is the Pro a lot less portable than the normal Macbook? Mainly in terms of battery length, and it's weight?

i have the 15" macbook pro and in terms of portability, you get a few hours with the battery (as much as you'd expect tbh) but it is a tad heavy. having said that i have walked for hours with it over my shoulder. a small hp or compaq would be nicer to lug around but then you don't get the spec or "cool" factor of the pro ;)

I just checked the spec - for 1249 on the MB you are getting the same processor, DVD drive and Disc as the MBP for 1899. Only the graphics/screen are better on the MBP. From my point of view this wasnt an issue, and actually prefer having a physically smaller machine. I bought my memory off crucial, and a nice little white WD passport drive off Komplett to store music/movies/photos.

Crucial memory (If you have a VAT number they take the VAT off on the spot)
