Ok so I'm pricing stone for a new build and I seem to getting a prices that are a bit crazy, for 3-4" down teh best I have got quoted is €12 per tonne.

I'm in the Carlow area, now I know Jollyman was able to get filling for €6 a tonne, has anyone any idea of anywhere in the Carlow area that sells stone at a more decent price, I know haulage is a major factor but I mean that’s a huge difference in price, I would have thought €10 a tonne would be the upper end of pricing.

I just saw the thread about the price of slates, mods if this isn't allowed please remove.

    Villian,

The prices i was quoted were very keen and all for cash

    Quarry 1:- 4/6" €6.50/tonne
    2/4" €7.00/Tonne
    804 €8.00/tonne
    Fines €6.50/Tonne

    Quarry 2:- 4/6" €9.50
    804 €10.50
    Blinding €14.50

    Quarry 3:- 4/6,2/4 €6.50
    Fines €12.50

Im sure if you haggled with them you may get money off, also i ended up paying €6k on stone!

I have tried 3 quarries and all 3 won't drop any lower than 12, I mean your guy could probably transport it the distance to me and still make a profit at €10 a tonne!

I have contacted one more and waitingt to hear back but thats crazy prices I'm getting at this rate I could end up been over your €6k for stone and only used over half what you did.

I doubt they would go that far, but is there any small local quarry's around. They are the guys i got the cheap prices from, the likes of the bigger company's wont budge and are dearer to start with! My block supplier salesman gave me the number of sand and stone guys because he said they were very dear for that stuff! But the small local guy is always willing to deal if you go and meet these people in person

another way, if you don't know: if you're near any big quarry, just hover around and get the names and mobile no's off the trucks - there are an awful lot of owner/operators out there who are easy to deal with.

Ditto if you see a truck driving around, or exiting a site - don't mind if it's full of other-than-stone, they'll haul anything.

Cheers Galwaytt, good idea, one mate reckons some drivers will do a better deal if you deal with them rather than the quarry, for good old hard cash.

I defo need to shop around more, I haveone quarry down to 11.50 inc vat and will do some for cash, its haggle haggle.

    Cash is king !!!
    Cavan area...
€6 for "rock face", rough filling.
€8 for anything else, all good blue hard stone..

I think your better looking for a small quarry where cash is more welcome...
    Cheers

Just bear in mind that if you dont know your gravels/stones etc and you are dealing cash with any old passing lorry you could get a load of pyrite or worse.

Living in Carlow, what is Dan Morrissy charging?

I always use Roadstone, it is quality stuff.
