films on RtE

sorry if this is not in the film or Tv thread, but wanted to get a more varied response a general feeling on the topic rather than just a specfic responce

have seen a number of films lately on RtE, mainly on a wednesday or thurday night, where 'the end' is flashed up imediatly before the closing credits or during them before going to an advert or a scheulduld announcement

was watching sin city a few weeks ago, for the first time, not sure if you know the film, but think its the final scene, one of the girls from the street gang, gets into a hospital lift after visiting a friend/relative and gets chating to a rival gang member posing as a doctor, wont give any more away, incase you havn't seen it

i was distracted for a moment, when i looked back at the screen, they were introducinng the nightly news, and i thought, comeriacal or news break, waiting till after the new finished, film never cointinued, slightly confused, until i went through some of the film events in my head

again last night, was watching 'final destination' (dont taunt me, know its c**p), but after a particaulr crusome sceene, 'the end' flashed up, before going to the news

now i have an idea why RtE do this, most probably a scheulding issue, but not sure about the rest of you, but it sometimes can take away the viewing pleasure, and can also be very annoying, especailly in the 'sin city' example

whats everyone elses feeling on this

Ive just stopped watching films Ive never seen before on tv

ads, quality issues, interuptions for the news (FFS!), poorly cut and censored scenes, poor dubbing etc

Having said that, I have noticed this phenomenon with films on RTE. Feeling a bit bewildered at where the heck the rest of the film has gone - even waiting through the whole news, as you've done, thinking it was split. But nothing when the news is finished...

    really grinds my gears :(

it's a pain in the arse when your waiting for someones name to come up on the credits too... then we have to go off to IMDB!

    BBC ftw!

    They never have ad breaks!

i'd watch the credits sometimes to who sang a particalar song, espeacily if its a cover version, or like you said, some ones name

Its part of the "stupidification" of broadcasting, no time to wind down during the credits cos they have to cram more ads in then a promo or three.

Another one that bugs me is C4 or ITV, where they split the screen when showing the credits, with half the screen taken up showing trailers. Makes the credits impossible to read.

It's incredibly frustrating. Don't care what anyone says, but at the end of a movie, you need a few moments just to soak everything in and 'come down,' if you get me, after the film. That lightning cut to 'the end' really jars you out of the film. It just doesn't feel right. I wouldn't mind cutting the credits in half or speeding them up like the BBC does, but that cut is sh ite. Just another in a long line of piss poor decisions by RTE. They're truly a godawful organization.

Not that I watch any films I haven't seen before on the television. But films I'd like to rewatch, I leave on.

I also hate how on RTE, whichever of the two channels it is, and whether its their late night movie or what, when they go to an ad break they show the "RTE movie" screen between the ads and the film itself but never mention the name of the fecking film they're showing

Would you not know what movie you are watching?

It seems to be universal across the networks where, whatever programme is involved, some announcer starts blabbing away as soon as the credits start to roll and everything suddenly gets squashed into the left-hand side of the screen, so that they can show another squashed up scene of what's on next. It's impossible to get a clean recording of anything for posterity. This is probably to force you to lash out for the DVD later on!

at least they still show the credits, no mater how much they are sqeezed or talked over, compared to blink and you've missed it, and the next programe is on, and your wondering how the movie ended, in my opening example

    :)

I don't watch movies on tv anymore, another annoying thing RTE do,and possibly some other channels,is to stick the news in the middle of a movie, and then return to it after the news.

Watching movies on ad-TV is kinda like watching a football match from behind a supporting beam. You're sort of getting the experience but not really and as such it is an essentially pointless exercise.

And as for some of the attempts at covering up the swear-words, I remember seeing one movie, where in the original, someone called somebody a "bastard motherf*cker". In the watered down TV version, it became "You insane maniac!" Now, who on earth would actually call someone an insane maniac in the real world?

I bet that was on ITV.

Yeah, an oulfella friend of mine was taping Hands, the arts and crafts show from the '70s and '80s and his head was wrecked by the continuity announcer talking over the credits, real loud, like!

Not always, no, If you flick onto something. It couldn't possibly kill them to mention the name of the film regardless could it?

It wouldn't but I don't really see it as being a necessity either.
