Job Dilemma

I've a bit of a dilemma. I'm going back to college in September 2008 to do a Masters in UCC. I'm presently looking for work up until then. I've gone for two interviews with one company (the 2nd interview was a full hour long. I'll call this Job A. Salary 24K p.a.). On Wednesday last I got a voicemail from the recruitment agency saying that my interviews weren't successful this time for Job A and that they were keeping my CV on file. I was a little surprised considering they kept me for a full hour for the 2nd interview. Anyway, I applied for Job B with a different company (Salary 26K-28K p.a.). On Thursday, i received a voicemail from the recruitment agency regarding Job A saying that there was a big mistake made with my application. Apparently the guy from Company A who rang in with a list of canditates to accept and a list of canditates to reject had got the two sheets mixed up. My application for Job A was successful, whereas i was told otherwise, apparently due to a mistake by this guy. However, i am a little suspicious over this. The recruitment agency have assured me that I was always their first choice for this job and that i wasn't a case of 2nd best when (if) the first person declined the job. I'm not sure what to think at the moment. I have an interview for Job B next week if I want to go for it. I have to let the 2nd recruitment agency know by today. Sorry if this doesn't make any sense. Any advice appreciated! Would you accept Job A under these mysterious circumstances?

I'd accept the offer...A bird in the hand and all that. That's provided you were happy with the salary initially offered. It could have been a genuine mistake on someones part or you could be second choice...There's no shame in being second and you eventually got the job. I don't see the dilema...

You plan on taking a full-time job for only 9 months? There's a salary difference of 2K with another job you may or may not get?

75% of 2K = 1.5K taxed at 20% = 1.2K roughly. When would you be starting either job, what's the time difference? Add or subtract that to the 1.2K and make your financial choice.

There is of course the matter of experience and commuting etc. But you don't mention either of these.

If you're financially satisfied, and satisfied with everything else. You would be a fool to turn it down because you were/might have been second best.

You can take jobA and still go for interview for jobB, if you get jobB and you prefer it tell jobA you had a better offer! 2k-4k difference makes a difference!

I had a similar decision to make recently and I took job A. As long as the experience is as good then you should be fine. The money in this case shouldnt really be a factor if your going back for a masters. However it depends if you would like to work for company B after you complete the masters...
