I got mine done at Vison in Walkinstown about 4 1/2 years ago and I've not had any problems. It cost ~230 for a 5 door polo to be tinted. About 3 months one of my windows was smashed and I went back to them and they sorted that one window for me for 60 euro.

    Their website is http://www.visionfx.ie/

I would reccomend staying away from Shades in rosemount business park, I got the 2 tone silver to black a year or so ago and the back window was put on krucked, the two side windows were at two different levels and when i brought it back, they argued that it was the way it came off the roll but i have other friends with it fitted properly and no such problems,
They also said that removing the tint from the back window may interfere with the de-mister elements and said i would have to pay for that, lol, i was having none of it so i told them to take it all off, make absolutly sure everything was exatly the same as when i brought it in, got my money back and brought it to vision who did an excelent job.

I'd recommend Vision in Walkinstown too
they give a 10 year warranty too - which is nice.

What's the first thing that pops into your head when you see a car with tinted windows these days?

    Polish!

In my head it'll always be associated with poverty spec eastern European cars....

.......which is a shame 'cos on some cars it looks fantastic.....

I have tinted windows on both my cars, think they look good, they're also practical as well.

Are there any legal issues regarding window tints???

there are no legal issues surrounding tints in Ireland except that you cant have your front windscreen tinted (but you can have a sun stripe tint).

Tinted car windows not a risk, judge decrees
    From:The Irish Independent
    Wednesday, 26th July, 2006

A JUDGE who threw out charges yesterday against a young man summonsed for driving a car with tinted windows said that the rich and famous drive around with similar blackened windows.

"It's cool to have these things on a car," Judge Tim Lucey told Nenagh District Court. "That's the whole point of it, really."

"You have all kinds of VIPs driving around with dark glass in stretch limos," the judge said. "Do they get prosecuted?"

As for the NCT...as long as the safety mark on the glass is still visible through the tint you will have no problems!!

i got pulled by the gardai lately and they put a devive on my driversside window the legal limit is 70% vision mine was 83% and he said most cars come out of the factory with a tint and its 25% -30% . .
so adding tint to your windows even if its very light tint can make it illegal .
but he said for my own good to have it removed , front drivers side and passengers side . the rest off the car can be any %in darkness ..
i wont remove it unless they summons me to court .

They tried this on me before i asked the gard where in law does it say its ilegal they couldnt back it up so i havent removed them i have also looked online theres nothing about them been ilegal in Ireland anyway.

They tried that stunt on me before too. Well, new RSA proposals for there to be at least 65% light let in on tints http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2009/0223/breaking41.htm

    Sounds fair?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 867 ✭✭✭giddybootz

Yeah it's fair enough i guess as it only affects the front side windows. Still I can see alot of people not being happy....medium(20%) all round is quite common. We would often advise light(35%) on the front and medium from the B post back.

HI ive always had my cars tinted and have had about six cars done in a lot of different places and althought VISION are not the cheapest they always do a very high spec job!! That being said I would NOT advise anybody to get personalised number plates from VISION as when I did the wait was long and realy just not worth it as the background sticker did not line up with the plastic face and just bad workmanship in general as they looked like stevie wonder himself did them after having a few too many!!!

VISION is not the cheapest but you know its going to be 100% so in my opinion its worth spending a little extra for the peice of mind that it will be done right the first time!! I was charged €240 for a honda civic and that was the full car which is five windows.

for calipers do them yourself. have done all my cars and it only takes a few axel stands and the caliper paint from halfords.

Use spray paint, the calipers don't need to come off! Just mask off the surrounding area
