Avast installation problem

Bought a Dell Vostro Laptop a few months ago and never activated the free 30 day subscription of McAfee Security. When I installed Avast AntiVirus the router from main computer would not let me access the Internet, when I uninstalled Avast everything worked as normal again. Wondering what is the cause of the problem? Can anyone help? Thank you

I was afraid to remove McAfee from the computer, in case Avast wasn't going to work but uninstalled it now and installed Avast again and everything is working perfectly now. One final question do you think Avast will be ok for protection on the laptop? Is there other protections I should put on the laptop also? Thank you very much for your help.

Yeah it should be fine. Make sure you get some anti-spyware software like spybot.
