    Hey,

I'm gonna take my first shot at upgrading equipment on a guitar and have decided to try changing the pickups on my 16+ year old les paul replica. I've decided to go with GFS pickups based on both price and harmony central reviews but am kind of at a loss on which pickup to get for the neck position.

The problem I have with my current pickup is that it's a bit too bassy and the low E and A sound muddled when playing. I read on another thread about the Mean 90 but tbh i'm not sure what sort of tone we're talking about with that pickup(as the title says i'm a noob at this).

I gues ideally the sound i'd like from the pickup would be similar to Slash, James Dean Bradfield (i know there is lots more to take into account than pickups with sounds like this) but would like to find a good starting point.

    Cheers in advance.

I had the zebra fat PAF, I think it was called, a very nice neck pickup.

Gonna give this a go myself. Got a Tradition Les Paul, looks and plays nice but the tone is a let down (through an Engl).
I'm gonna get a set of tuners and a Les Paul wiring kit from Guitar Fetish.
Looking at a GFS bigmouth for the bridge and a mean 90 for the neck.

Going for a Tremonti type sound. Something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFYKZjLD_S4

Or would the crunchy rails be closer to the tone I want?
