Coincidence or not?

Since yesterday, my Sky HD box is stuck on stand-by. Re-booted and also forced download - the usual solutions - got the "updating software" message but once done it went back to being stuck. Engineer call-out booked for next week.

Also since yesterday, my Eircom broadband is playing up. Eircom technical support suggested disconnecting phones from the sockets: it seems ok when I do this, but it goes again (no connection with exchange) when I put the phones back in the sockets. They suggested it might be a problem with ASDL filters and I'll replace those and see.

The HD box is connected to the phone line.

It seems a big coincidence that both problems occur simultaneously: but is there any reason they could be linked?

Had some problem like this as well with my sky+ box.....try unplugging the line from the sky box....In my case the modem in the box was interfering with the line......Faulty Modem

That seems to be the answer. Broadband is fine when the phone line is disconnected from the HD box, and goes again when I plug it back in.

So whatever is wrong with the HD box was also screwing up the broadband.

    Wonder why?

Try Unplugging the phones, drop the power to the Sky box " don't just switch it off " Reconnect the phones, wait a few minutes then power up the Sky Box. The box has a nasty habit of grabbing the line and hanging on to it often leaving me without an internet connection. The above solves my problem so it might help you.
