Golfing in Artane, Dublin 5 or Airport

    Hello all

I've just moved to Artane. I'm trying to get kind of active again and figured I'd try my hand at Golf. Something which I've always loved but never got around to playing on any kind of regular basis.
I'm kind of hoping that there are groups out there of people who join up once a week or a couple of times a month to play golf together (not know anything about this I've no idea if this is even done), a group that I could join.
I'm 30, male :) and a complete novice. I don't even have any clubs (but that's something I'd be able to remedy soon enough). I'd be looking for some where around the Artane, Coolock or Dublin 5 area. Also I work out by the Airport and by the St Margaret's road there is a golf course there so that would be perfect.

I'm assuming that this is not the way things are done :D but any advice anyone can give me would be great. Point me in the right direction and all that

    Thanks in advance

    Dara,

First of all check out this thread:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055234223

We're talking about arranging a golf day between everyone who has an
    interest in golf on boards.

Also, I live in Santry and there are plenty of facilities nearby, including the driving range at the Coachmans Inn just outside the airport, probably the best place to start for a total novice.
It might be recommended to get a few lessons at the beginning just to make sure you don't develop any bad habits and that your technique etc. is right.
If you need a very good teaching pro's details just let me know.
There are a load of public and private courses within a half hours drive of you, depending on what you're looking for.
I would suggest joining a golf society for regular enough (about 6 outings a year, mostly summer) golf with the same group (12-50 depending on success of society) on different courses about the place.
Best place to look is possibly your workplace, most pubs also have one, or other sports clubs ie football etc.

Hope this helps, get your skates on and get some clubs and count yourself in on our outing!!

Thanks, I've actually just posted on the boards Golf day. That sounds like it would be good fun.
Regarding the lessons, I've actually be looking at that already. I think for the moment I'll try something small like a secondary school course or something like that (seen a few already actually). I think a golf pro might be a bit too much for me and I'm only just starting out anyways :)

As for the clubs and stuff, well that's why I am here :D I'm hoping that someone can recommend a good place with active members that wont mind a complete novice.

Par 3 golf is the best place to start, keep going to the range get a bit of confidence and then some lessons with a pro.

    Hi Dara

I moved here from the UK in October, have teamed up with a couple of guys from boards - we play most Sundays and are always on the lookout for other players. PM if you want to get out for a game sometime. I'm living in Raheny.

    Cheers, Carl

Is this like the Urban Golf they have in London? Supposed to be expensive but I'd say it would be great crack. Look forward to seeing how that works out.

*Wonder what this new pacman thing does*:pac: :pac: :pac: :pac:

Dont know what it will look like exactly! I spoke to them last week (there's a number on the website). They say the cost will be approx 12.50 euro per hour per person with 4 people playing. Not too dear

As a single handicap golfer living in Malahide, Im looking forward to it opening. Don't know where in Swords it is exactly!!
