I need a garage handy to Oranmore for an exhaust problem and a possible service. Anyone got recommendations?

That's the garage beside Glynns pub isn't it? They're grand, not too expensive going by my mams experience with them!

They refated my tyre for E6! :D

It's the one opposite rather than the tyre place beside Glynns

Having dealt with Fahys Garage for a few years I have to say I found them very very expensive. I decided to change and was shocked at how much I saved straight away however if you have a High Performance Car especially anything VAG; they have thee best VAG Mechanic in the West of Ireland and beyond. If you have an exhaust problem book it into an exaust centre for a certain time. It will probably be fixed while you wait. Shop around for a service. I go to Connolly beside the Airport.

Byrnes Tyres which beside Glynns and kind of across the road from Fahys is very good for tyres

As already mentioned, they have one of the best VAG (Volkswagan/Audi -German performance cars, etc) mechanics in the business but if it's just an ordinary exhaust and run-of-the-mill scheduled service you might be better looking elsewhere as they can be very busy and you might be waiting a while to get it booked in. It's worth giving them a call anyway if you want to shop around.

There is also AKAT up beside City Limits and the Quality Hotel. They service everything and anything as far as I know

    Try

    Oranmore Auto Centre
Deerpark Bus Centre Oranmore Co. Galway
    Tel: 091-792400

    Beside the StatOil, near Hygeia.

Fahys are, by reputation, one of the best in the country for performance and classic cars.

However, as mentioned above, for an exhaust issue you may be better with the likes of Ballybrit Exhaust and Tyre Centre, near Windsor opposite the turn down to Castlepark.

Yup Fahy's are a very good garage a lot of people would consider them expensive but they really do a brilliant job. Then again my familly have always used them. I would have no problem recommending any work they carry out be it mechanical or body work.

If its a performance car (not just VAG but its what he is known best for) then to be honest they are top notch. It was the only garage I used before I moved from Galway and to be honest its the only garage I actually dont worry whats happening my car when its in for a long stay.

Off topic but to give you an idea of horror stories from places when you have a performance car that is any way upgraded....

One garage in Limerick, which I wont name, managed to nick some CD's burn through about a full tank of fuel (I barely made it to the petrol station to filll it again) and screw up my ICE install. They got an ear full I tell ya. I dont even want to know what speeds some little gob was doing in my car.

Another garage in Limerick, the SEAT dealers, managed to
    a) Get the wrong brake discs/pads for my car, a Cupra. They ordered off the chassis number after I telling them they where not standard and that they needed to order the parts from a CupraR not the Curpa.... long delay followed. And I'm still not happy with the break balance under heavy breaking.

    b) Order the wrong tire sizes....I run 205/45ZR16 and they went and ordered 205/40R16 (forget the exact speed rating they got)...more delays.

    c) On a full service managed to ignore completely my Diverter Valve .

byrnes are a rip off,i asked them to lift my motor to check what part i needed for my exhaust and for 5 mins work i was charged 20 bucks!
what a rip off! the missus was going to get new tyres for her car but now she will be going elsewhere!
    don't go near them!

I would say stay away from Fahys. Had a couple of bad experiences with a VW polo a couple of years ago. Brought the car in for a new clutch. After 'repair' in Fahys I was driving down the road and it slipped again nearly causing me to have an accident.they took it back again for another day and eventually fixed it before charging me a fortune.

I've used AKAT Pitstop behind the City Limits in the past and found them good. However others I know haven't liked them so much.

I suppose I always research exactly what I want done before I phone them and they never do any more or less. Reasonably priced in comparison to other quotes as well.

How much would you have charged?
I know him and he is not a Registerd Charity. Every mechanic would have to charge something. A lot charge €150 an hour (some charge more) and they would have to have a minimum charge.
I would have got my tyres from wherever and agree a price to also check the exhaust.

I had a great experience using Fahy's for my service. I hadn't done a thing to my car (apart from filling it with fuel) and already knew a good few things it needed doing. They did a good job and the price was fair and within the figure that was in my head.

I have a mediocre-performance, un-classic car (which I love) and am very satisfied with Fahy's. They never try and do anything that doesn't need done, (pet hate of mine with garages) they are honest, quick and I've not found them to be particularly expensive.
