I was listening to Matt Cooper on Today FM this evening and one of his contributors said that the iPhone was going to be released here in a few weeks. There's nothing about this on the Apple rumour sites so I don't know if it is fact or conjecture.

there was something in the Business Post a while back about it being released over here in April i think. Might be some news on it at this Apple conference at the end of February.

    Still a rumour though!

it's to be discussed tonight during the tech slot at about 6:30.......

I must say I got a little excited.

closest news item I've seen is the article with the 3g store owner who had talks with Steve Jobs at MacWorld.

So is it Meteor or O2 I wonder?
Vodafone have confirmed to me twice that they are not getting it... So bang goes my contract with them!

Doubt it'll be Meteor, likely to be O2 or maybe Vodafone

Its gonna be O2, they pretty much confirmed that already.

It's gonna a be a while i Spoke to a guy in the know @O2 and he said that apple are looking to take too much of a cut from the monthly contracts.

Since Ireland has a small poulation it's an unrealistic amount to expect even the most optimistic take up isn't worth the cost to them at the moment.

i would have assumed it'd be o2 who would carry the iphone over here but a little birdie told me vodafone want in on the contract

Cant see O2 signing up for it without some kind of control over its EU usage. Doubt it make good business for O2 to have let slip to other operators...

Last I heard O2 had won the contract for them here in Eire.

I'm sensing an unlocked phone answers all questions asked here though?

There are an awful lot of "Tech Correspondents" around at the moment who seem to do nothing but talk through their holes appearing on radio stations and getting columns in magazines and papers. I'm no expert but I've seen an awful lot of misinformation being bandied about and it's clear that there are a lot of these guys out there who are just spoofing and winging it because nobody else in the building knows a thing about Tech. I think the iPhone is a clear example of this - there has been so much stuff just made up on the spot about it and thrown out there just to fill space. I'm not getting at the real journalists here - the good ones know who they are!

agree'd. i hate tech experts because they're usually completely dimwitted. one day trawling through digg and you'd be more of an expert then these guys. they seem to get all their information from vaguely educated guesses and sales pitches.
