Am just back from the states and found this magazine in Borders. It is called Armchair General. It has retired military writers, historians and even a couple of stategy games designers as its writing team.

It is a surprisingly good read. Informative and seems to have a lack of bullsh*t that other US history mags have. I got the 100 greatest generals issues, it caught my eye like a bee to honey!! Cover articlaes were the 100 generals, biography of Moshe Dayan, and 50 books for 50 battles bibliography. This issue also has many short 1-2 page articles on varied topics (in this issue-the Israeli Defense force, Cyber attacks, Chinese military spending, ancient generals. book reviews, samurai, the VC, the Mossad, early gunpowder weapons, cuban missile crisis) While some of the articles are too short to help an experienced reader of military history theyt are a great starting point. Overall the articles content outweights the advertising and sh*te

The Site is pretty good but magazine wise I've only seen it on sale a couple of times in Easons in O'Connell St but not recently. I checked Borders here too but never seen it - pity!

Check the Site folks - plenty of info on it to keep most military junkies going for a good while.
