Having the Car in London

    Hi,

I've to go to London for a few days followed by Birmingham area and would prefer to bring the car (will have too much to carry on board an aircraft).

As I'm in London for about 3 days I'd rather not have the hassle of parking etc. So a few questions:

    1. Are Irish cars hit with the congestion charge?
    2. Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay outside London and commute in, was thinking Henley-on-Thames as it looks like a nice village?

    Thanks

the congestion zone is not THAT big. you could very well stay in a hotel in earls court (for example) and make sure the hotel has a car park so you can leave the car there and use public transport.

To the best of my knowledge its not enforceable for non uk licensed vehicles though that could always change. If you do decide to pay it takes about 2 mins to pay in a newsagent and if you dont and are liable they start heaping on fines the very next day and it gets to silly money in no time at all. It only applies within the redzone and monday to friday 8-6pm (unless they have changed that).

Re where to stay outside london that depends on what kind of hotel you want or how much of a commute - some city centre hotels may have parking included.

If your insisting on outside london itself this place here is not too far and beautiful location/reasonable in price
