I am interested in taking an online course in creative writing. I have come across UniversalClass.com. Has any body heard anything about them or have any other suggestions for online course?
    Thanks

Personally I think creative writing courses are a steaming pile of ***. But that's just my own opinion.

If you are looking to learn online there are numerous writer's websites and forums that offer a wealth of free information.

One I use is www.absolutewrite.com/forums. You can learn a lot about the basics of creative writing in whatever genre you want to over there. To me, unless the creative writing instructor is someone special, I haven't seen any evidence that they are going to offer you something above and beyond what you did in school.

If you really want to improve your writing I suggest taking some sort of English Lit. course instead. To me, studying literature and understanding it is more important to writing that learning some arbitrary rules about creative writing.

The alternative is to read a LOT of fiction, especially prize winning and critically acclaimed fiction. Try and see what those writers are doing. IMO a bad or average creative writing instructor can do more harm than good, but then it just depends on what your aims are.
