Ipod/Itunes Problem

First of all, I'm not too sure if this has been covered before, I've had a quick look and can't find anything in here.
Second of all, I'm not too technically minded so forgive me if this is a bit "amateur."

I recently uploaded about 10gB of songs into my Itunes, (from a friends collection, burned to DVD then ripped from DVD's into Itunes) then synced my ipod. No problem, everything plays om Ipod (as far as I know) but when I try to play music on my laptop through Itunes it just says "the song could not be used because the original file could not be found."

So it looks lke I have a copy on my Ipod but not in Itunes.
Anybody have any advice or know what's up?
    Any advice much appreciated.

it looks like maybe the music files have been changed from their original location. itunes is expecting them to be in a certain place eg mydocument/mymusic/itunes.
so if they have been moved from that location it gives the error you've got coz itunes cant loacte them there to play them.
i havent got itunes in front of me so cant tell u what exactly to do, but try right clicking on a song in itunes, go into it's information and check it's location, take note of it
then come out of itunes, go into windows explorer or my computer and manually go to the location you've just taken note of.
if all your music is here in this location then im wrong about this whole thing and it's something else!
if your music files are not in this location (which i think maybe the case) then you need to locate them and put them into the location that you took note of in itunes.
hope this helps, if not, get back to me

    Thanks Tom,

I see what you're getting at but all the music is in the right place.
My laptop has Vista on it and I've just noticed that all the music in the Itunes folder on my laptop is all numbered ie:

    0956 Bamboleo.mp3

Vista has just taken it upon itself to number these tunes and I reckon Itunes can't recognise them as the title now has four digits at the start of every bloody song!!
If I double click them in the folder on my laptop they'll play in Itunes but if I click them in Itunes it comes up with same message as before^^^^^^

    Tom/Anybody reckon it's that maybe?
    Or any other suggestions?

yep well that's the problem so, itunes is looking for bamboleo.mp3 not
    0956 bambaleo.mp3
try renaming 0956 bambaleo.mp3 to just bambaleo.mp3 in windows then go back into itunes and play it. if it works then u know that's defo the problem, then go and rename all your files!
did u recently install a new version of itunes?

Yeah it's the latest update of itunes, can't remember what version, only downloaded it last week.
Tried renaming the song and playing but that didn't work, I'm actually happy as there was no way in hell I was renaming 10gB of songs!!
Looks like it's back to the drawing board.
This is a work laptop, think I'll just buy a cheap Dell one with XP for personal use, Itunes, internet etc.
I'll try a couple of other things, probably just give it to my mate who is into IT and see what he can sort out..

i took a quick look on some of the apple forums, installing the new version on itunes seems to be giving that problem,
didnt have time to go thru the forums properly but if u google the error message you're getting you might get some more answers
as a last resort u could use a programme like ipod agent to copy your music from your ipod back onto your laptop (or to your new one if u get one)
