    Hey folks,

Your gonna love this one...I had an oldish Mexican Strat and decided to do a bit of remodeling. Basically I bought noiseless pickups, gold hardware etc.

Now I remember seeing a Rory Gallagher signature Strat and thinking jasus that looks tasty. Anyways to cut a long story short I went at my strat body with a blowtorch in an effort to burn the paint and coating off it with the idea of sanding it down and making it look like a Rory signature...

So basically the whole thing went up in flames and made complete sh1te out of it....anyone know where I can get a Fender Strat body in Ireland fairley cheap?. Is there anywhere that specializes in Fender spares??

    Cheers....

Have a maple neck alright though its mine I tell's ya mine!!. Saw a few bodies on Ebay alright, theres one poxy red one for 40 yoyo's. Will buy the Squire one of you if its for sale?.

Will throw some pics up tomorrow night, bloody disaster. Alright without trying to sound like a complete idiot, I didn't really go at it with a blowtorch. It was more like a can of lynx spray and a lighter (Seemed like an original idea at the time)...

Hahahaha. That's classic. I don't mean that in a nasty way or anything, you surely see the funny side of it :D

    Dude that is fa-huntastic.
I have an 80's american standard and when I was looking for a bridgescrew for it I found it on e-bay. Like the exact one. Inside ten minutes. As long as you are just looking for an empty body to transfer the electrics into, then that should be e-bay for sure. They have plenty of parts there for problems such as yours. Are u looking for a strat shape, or an actual body from a genuine fender? I am not sure how much you love your guitar.
But you know what, man you are an artist, and its worth losing a guitar for that story alone.

Aye, definitely throw up some pics, be interesting to see how much damage a can of smellies and a naked flame is capable of :D

Sure didn't Jimi himself set his guitar on fire and then have it salvaged? (may not be true about the salvage, and if it is it may not be true that it still worked)

How bad is the damage to it? You never know, you may be able to save the body and have a deadly looking Burnocaster :)

How bad is the damage? Surely its superficial? A good sanding and a bit of filler should be able to clean up a lot of that. Repaint and no one would know the difference.
You can get bodies from companies like allparts and warmoth but they are pretty expensive, you could probably buy a new squier for the price of some of those new bodies for sale.

    Dude... seriously?? A blowtorch?

I'd try ebay or Warmoth.com for a new body anyway. Don't waste your time and money trying to get something in Ireland.

If you do want to strip the paint off your guitar there are guides online to help you do it right.

I believe some people put their guitar bodies in the oven at a high temperature for a while, then drop bolts onto it to chip the paint off and dint the body.

another option is to use Nitromors to strip the paint.

I have a highway one. they have a thin layer of paint, so i'm letting the paint fall off naturally. still nothing visibly gone yet. nice body though.

nitromors does feck all to a poly finished guitar,
a heat gun and a scraper that isn't blunt is what you need

Re the Jimi Guitar. I think Dweezil Zappa owns it now.
It passed on to Frankie Zappa who restored it lovingly to write some prog nonsense.
Then Frankie kicked the bucket, and his son de facto inherited the guitar, which he has tried to sell about 600 times since, for like a trazillion bucks.
