I doubt its any good considering the time of year for its release. if it was going to be the ''next'' matrix it would be apart of the summer blockbusters.
My guess is another special effects disaster flic like 'stealth' remember that terrible movie with Jamie Foxx OH DEAR!!!!

Ok, haven't seen this yet, but check out the book "The Stars My Destination" by Alfred Bester. Written in the '50s, it delivers much more style to the idea of personal teleportation than this film looks like it ever could. Going on comments on other forums, the writer of the Jumper story has acknowledged Bester's influence on his own work.

After reading that, Jumper is off my list. Thank you IGN!

on ain't it cool they don't seem to be overly fond of it either after seening an advanced screen. But I wouldn't trust those ****ers at all , prefer the reviews of sites like this where people don't really have any hidden agenda behind their reviews and as well the multiple reviews give a fairer idea of the over all movie.

why do people go to see these movies expecting great storylines yadayadayada...
these movies are eye candy, nothing more. go to the cinema, turn off your brain for 2 hours and enjoy the silliness.

The covenant is another movie absolutley slammed, but ideal brainless fun.

I'm really looking forward to jumper for that very reason...!

Couldn't help thinking Babylon 5 when I read that, turns out the babylon 5 character is based on that writer.

The trailer was piss poor, most likely won't see.

I'm just back from the cinema and must admit that I enjoyed it immensly. THe story could have done with some fleshing out but for 80 odd minutes it kept me entertained and my eyes fixed squarely on the screen. There have been better films this year and there have been worse, and like National Treasure 2, Jumper is a nice change of pace and perfect Friday night fodder.

saw jumper last night and i have to say i liked it, hayden christansen(sp?)is a good actor and although it ended kind of abruptly the storyline was good throughout. Id say there will be a sequel by the looks of it!

    p.s. samuel l jacksons hair is a must-see in itself:D

    16% on Rottentomatoes

Shame, I was looking forward to this to be a good popcorn flick

It is a good popcorn flick.... leave your brain at home because you won't need it. Pity it is reliant on a sequel to wrap it up though. I heard there is a trilogy planned.

The movie is based on Stephen Gould's book, Jumper. From what I've read about the book, it sounds like a good read (along with its sequel Reflex), but is structurally different to the movie (e.g. there are no Paladins, and David isn't a total dick).

a movie thats good by itself, but is relying on a 2nd and maybe a third movie in order to finish the story? wow this really IS the new matrix!!

Seen it at weekend ... entertaining
but nothing special and plot is stupid (but what do you expect)

    3/5

Saw it at the weekend, AVOID!! Awful awful movie. In fact it made me angry watching it!

I havent read the book but it "borrows" far too much from john twelve hawks "the traveller" books.

Christensen is a really bad actor. as for the bilson woman, wtf? completely unbelievable performance.

sometimes with movies you have to go with it a bit with the plot is ropey but i just couldnt.

Here are my problems with this film:

    Who are the good guys?
the "jumpers" are wasters in life. The ones we meet dont have jobs, they rob banks and sleep around. They contribute nothing to society. Christensen framed his school bully. WTF? The scene with hayden watchin the telly and there is a flood with people drowning - i thought when he picked up his coat and umbrella he was going to help them, but no he goes off to london to get the ride!

Then we meet the NSA, sam jackson. They want to rid the world of jumpers (in a quite ridiculous fashion using cattle prods) because "eventually they all turn bad"

There is no backstory given to the ongoing "war" between the NSA and the jumpers. Therefore my only conclusion was that i wanted the NSA to win!!!

    Avoid this film!!!

This really was a terrible movie. I'm more or less convinced now that Hayden Christensen just cannot act. I thought maybe it was just his performance in Star Wars. As a lead, he was utterly bland, boring and completely unlikeable. His cold dead eyes regularly chilled me to the bone. The actor playing his younger self would even have been preferable as the lead. And I agree with Faceman above, the lack of an exploration into this war that was going on left the whole thing feeling very shallow. Bilson and Bell werent too bad in their respective (marginal) roles and at least lightened the tone every now and then. Unfortunately even Jackson wasnt on form for this flick.

Another thing that irked me was how little the younger and older versions of the characters resembled each other. Surely THAT much time couldnt have passed between their highschool days and the ages they are in the present day?!
There was just no way that girl grew up to look like Rachel Bilson. I mean Bilson played a highschool student on the OC only a few years back?!?!
    .
Also, maybe it was just me, but did anyone else think that
considering how Christensen and Bilson had never actually hooked up in school, she was awfully quick to hop on a plane with him to Rome, after he showed up many years later??

The films only redeeming feature was its effects. I thought the visual and sound design of the wormhole leaps were very interesting. Especially the ones that caused significant damage to the area he landed in!

But on the whole, this movie should be avoided!!
a movie thats good by itself, but is relying on a 2nd and maybe a third movie in order to finish the story? wow this really IS the new matrix!!

The first Matrix pretty much stood on its own though, while this one was clearly made with the intention of more sequels in mind.

I dont think he actually worked for the NSA though.
Every time Jackson appeared, he claimed to be working for a different government agency.

good point, makes the film even more non-sensical!

Bilson admits to sex scene nerves
    Tuesday, February 19 2008, 09:43 GMT

    By Alex Fletcher, Entertainment Reporter

Actress Rachel Bilson has admitted that she drank alcohol to get through sex scenes in her new movie Jumper.

The former OC star said that despite filming more revealing scenes in previous movies, she was still fraught with nerves before shooting romantic scenes with Hayden Christensen.

She told the Daily Telegraph: "I remember Hayden and I were both like, 'Let's drink a shot or something to calm our nerves.' Because it's just so awkward.

"I mean, this was a very mild scene compared to the one in The Last Kiss, but it was still nerve-wracking. I don't think that's ever going to be a comfortable thing for me.

"It's just something that goes against nature."

Bilson has previously stated that she will never appear nude onscreen because she believes she can be 'sexy' without stripping off.

    I wonder what actor/actress from 9 Songs did ????

eh, the scenes in jumper were hardly nerve racking! They were clothed!!!

Director must have filmed an extended scene that he either took home for himself...or we'll see six months after the original dvd release, with the title 'Extreme Unseen Edition'!!!

well i saw that jumper film and it was really bad, i expected better from the director of the bourne identity.....the CGI was the only good thing about it....

Must say i enjoyed it but the lead actor was ****e. Just as bad as he was in star wars.

They could have done so much more with this idea but o well.

3/5 for me too. Mainly for the cool sound effects and cgi.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2 twistedchicken

I'd agree with 3/5, just on the basis of terrible lead actor and no evident plot, could have been great but they had to go fer the typical cops and robbers approach

3 out of 5 is far to forgiving for this movie!

And you pretty much sum up my feelings on it, faceman.

I didn't empathise with the apparent good guys at all. The Jumpers didn't care about anything......so why should I? There was obviously some interesting backstory there with Jamie Bell's character when he was aged 5 and his parents, that motivates him to do what does (hunts Paladins) - but its been cut out for whatever reason.

Also I can't understand why Christensen keeps getting starring roles - sure, there's no real acting chops needed for this role but the role needs charisma and personality and he seems to have absolutely none of both. Jamie Bell would've been a better bet in the lead role.

    Nice visual effects though.

    Very poor film.
Scripted by a 6 year old on the back of a pack of cigarettes.
The plot was absolutely ludicrous and made no sense at all at all.
Sure it can be over the top but this was just plain bad.
    Wooden acting and poor directing.
After doing a good job on the Bourne Identity ,Liman has made two stinkers in Mr and Mrs Smith and now Jumper.

I saw it last night and thought it was okay, I'd turned off the brain as it was definetely a hindrance to enjoying it. As mentioned it definetly needed a bit more of a back story as to the palladin / jumper war. As faceman mentioned the scene with hayden watchin the telly and there is a flood with people drowning was surely an opportunity to let us think of hayden as a good guy but instead showed him to be selfish so why should we empathise with this guy, because his father and mother weren't there for him?

Jamie Bell was good I thought and as for his backstory, it wasn't cut. Later in the movie he says briefly that
samuel L. had killed his parents when he was five
    hence his reason.
