bit of a newbie question here. when you install a motor do you point it at a satellite to begin with and then the box finds them or do you have to point the dish at every sat and programme/save it.
    Thanks

Either/or. The first method you describe is called USALS - setup the 'reference' satellite and provided all other aspects of the install have been carried out correctly, it will find the rest of the sats.
Otherwise, you can just move the dish manually until you find a sat signal, scan the sat and save the position.

Or you could give up on television and go and speak to your wife.

Also 3 types of Motor technology
    1) Diseqc powered by LNB cable
    2) 36V separate power needed for larger dishes, may use dedicated controller on receiver or Diseqc GotoX/USUALS converter box.
    3) Dual motor with internal controller. For REALLY big dishes (small 0.1 degree inclination of satellite is a problem) or regular dish for EOL (End Of Line large inclination > 1 degree) satellites. The controller is programmed with the inclination and other stats.
Item (3) may also have per satellite / per channel skew adjustment using co-rotator or motor.
