Gym training

    Hey,

I've got a couple of rugby related questions maybe somebody who plays or coaches could help me out.

My friend started to play recently for the first time even though he's in his 20s which seems a bit unusual. I know he goes to the gym as part of training.

I'm curious how much gym training is involved in rugby at the lower levels. Like at schools level, how much time would an aspiring rugby player spend in the gym? is weight training and gym work in rugby usually position- specific? also, is there a big emphasis on guys putting on weight en muscle when they are starting out?

thanks for the help, i know sweet f. a. about rugby

i suppose it depends on the position they're going for. 1-15 all need strength but those in the pack need more bulk than the backs.
at schools level no weight training up to Junior level(u-15) just push-ups, sit-ups, free squats etc.... but once you hit senior level weight training comes in, 3-4days a week with intensity increasing with progress

Thanks for the reply. 3 to 4 days gym training seems like a good bit of work.
