I heard a rumor from a reliable source in the UK that soon sky will no longer be making any more standard boxes and instead will be concentrating on Sky + boxes as standard...

Just wondering if any of the other engineers out there has heard anything...

I have heard rumours about the same over the past year or so. Especially after they dropped the €15 recording levy.

However, I've not heard much about it recently.

I first heard this 3 years ago from a pace rep.

its going to happen eventually i'd say........might be no harm to buy a spare standard box just to have handy?

I'd still consider the standard boxes handy for Multiroom applications.

Anyone remember a story about some unique PVR/LNB that would just use one downlead? I'm nearly sure I heard it in here about a year or so ago.

Unicable twin tuner PVRs are surprisingly thin on the ground - Inverto IDL 7000S is the only one I can think of.

If the Freesat spec included unicable, it would be a serious advantage over Sky+.

Yeah but maybe better just to replace it with a sky + if it goes faulty
