Lads, Just wondering if anybody happens to know where I can get my hands on an Irish Velcro Patch. Regardless of the camo I would be wearing (it's not, nor do I have Irish DPM, just in case people are wondering:)) I would rather have an Irish Flag on the shoulder than some other countries patch...

I've searched the wonderful world of the interweb and have found more or less diddly squat.

Defeats the purpose of the cammo to have a tri-colour stuck on your shoulder, we tape over them on tactics.

    Cheers John...

    Thanks for the response lads.

Rew, I can understand your point when it comes to going out on actual missions, training etc. But, as much as I would like it to, camo doesn't come into it very much out in the likes of HRTA. Maybe in Drogheda to a certain degree and I've yet to see "Gorse Hill" or G-tac. For the occasions that I think it might be a hinderence, velcro gives me the option of just removing it. Not having a go at you. You have a valid point...

The main reason I am looking for a velco patch is for when I get the opportunity (depending on approval from the war department a.k.a the wife;)) to go abroad for events such as berget.

The one linked to on ebay is the flash that all Irish Soldiers wear overseas so if you wear that chances are you willget asked what UN mission you were on.

I thought it would be illegal to wear an Irish flag.
    Is it?

Not sure Guniess got in to trouble for printing flags with their logo on them Because they were defacing the flag.

If it's illegal to wear an Irish flag then I'd better get rid of my tri-colour leprechaun suit with wig and beard attachments, shame too, what with Paddy's Day coming up...

Thanks for that, you have restored my faith in humanity....

What I meant was that that patch is supposedly part of the Irish military uniform, and the Irish army camo pattern illegal to wear when you are not on duty. This logic extends to that patch and of the badges or other such that is worn by the Irish army, or so I believe.

It's not illegal to wear the Irish flag so long as it is not defaced.

Oddly enough though, how many times have you seen the Irish flag being defaced at sporting games where fans write their teams name on it, or messages of support?

Are you talking army issue tri-colour or normal?

On the (off)topic of flags. Ever noticed that US soldiers appear to wear the american flag backwards on their right arm. Apparently it's so the stars are closest to their heart...

Afaik its so the flag always appears to be moving forward, towards the battle, and never retreating from it. Or something like that
