    Aperture 2.0 just released stateside...

    http://www.apple.com/aperture/

Interesting to see if they've improved performance - 1.5 was really creaking when compared to Lightroom.

looking at a few of the video tutorials... it's a wonderful sight to have 2 23" HD Cinema displays.. One displaying thumbnails, other full size images. Some day... some day...

Must download a demo of it.

I tend to use my 24" for thumbnails and the 30" for editing but 2 23" :p

kidding aside, I'll be interested to see this working at focus on imaging as they have masterclasses for this with approx 20 MBP's.

...I've played far too much Portal lately.

Visions of more portally fun aside, it looks interesting.

    Windows?

Sure, if you'd like to pay an extra 2k for same spec... mac's are just great!

anyway, this is going off topic.

Looks like a fine piece of software, but er.. actually, is there anything like wine for linux that works with mac software?

Without dragging this too far off topic, that's bollocks. A dell workstation with 2 dual core processors, 4gb ram, 500GB hard drive, a decent graphics card and a 19" widescreen monitor is about 400 quid less than a mac pro with 2 quad core xeons, 2gb ram, 500gb hard drive, a very decent graphics card and a 23" HD Cinema display.

The mac is significantly more machine for a tiny amount of extra cash.

Gotta say I was completely underwhelmed by Aperture and found Lightroom a much more productive tool. Maybe V2 has improved things.

I hated V1 but find V2 (downloaded the trial to my MacBook yesterday) much improved. Me likey.

Does anyone know if an, erm, error, was to befall the time and date on my computer would this mean the trial could accidentally continue past the expiry date? Hypothetically speaking of course. I just spend hours tagging all my photos, and am just after realising it's quite an expensive bit of software.

if the software was stupid enough to be fooled by a change in the computers date & time I'd be awestruck with surprise. $199 isn't too bad..

I know, but from reading around various threads on here it seems Photoshop is susceptible to the same... vulnerability.

Just wondering! And $199 is enough for a [broke] college student! :D

My macbook had that problem for a while, it was a couple of months before i managed to fix it

here's one for ya - set the date on your pc forward about 1-200 years. try run a few programs..

they wont work, as lisencing is now invalid :p

happened to me a good while ago, pc set itself to like 2149 and nothing would work.. I was just going 'wtf'

In fairness though, 199$ does seem more than fair.

after the presentation Guy Gowan gave about it last year on the photo fest I really like Aperture
and I've been backing PC all the time
I agree you can get a beefier PC for the same money, but I have to agree that a mac will run as smoot (or better in some cases) even with less specs as a pc of the same cost

aperture is really what I need, and if version 1.5 was that good I imagine version 2 has to be brilliant

I wish I could find a product for PC that does what apertura does (and no, lightroom is not even close to it)

I'm a daily Lightroom user, and can't understand what it is about Aperture that's so appealing - not trying do diss you but I just can't see its tools being as good as Lightroom's.

Maybe the library/search/tagging etc etc is better (I don't know coz i don't use it) but development tools are far better in Lightroom, and handling of presets and catalogs seems to straightforward to me.
