Looking for an entry level laptop for home. Just for surfing the web, downloading music etc. No need for anything stylish - just functional. Saw a HP 530 on laptopsdirect.ie for €368 but I have no idea what memory I would need. This one has an 80GB hard drive, 512MB RAM with an Intel Celeron M440 / 2Ghz processor. Or would I be better off spedning €600 on a basic Dell? What do I get for the extra money? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

For downloading music all you really need is a large hard drive, if you want to do it on a laptop that runs fast then thats another issue.
The HP 530 one would be fine for your needs I imagine, if you increase the ram in it from 512mb to say 1GB - 2GB so its not dog slow that is....

Was just looking at that one! Just customised a little by changing from Vista to XP and upp'ed the battery from 4 cell to 6 cell. Comes out at €373.39 all in. Probably a good bet for what I need so?

XP would probably be the best choice for you. It'll run much better on that hardware.
