12.02.2008 - As part of the expansion of its European retail presence the first ever Apple store is due to open in Ireland and will be located in Victoria Square, Belfast.

Currently, only two countries, the UK and Italy, have an Apple retail store presence but the new expansion will also include Germany and Switzerland, with stores expected to open in Zurich, Geneva and Munich.

While Apple is recruiting staff for these new stores at present, it is also advertising for positions in its existing stores in the UK, pointing to a strong retail push in western Europe.

Apple currently has 13 retail stores in the UK alone with the flagship outlet based in Regent St in London, the biggest Apple store worldwide after its Fifth Avenue, New York presence.

While customers can order any products from the online Apple store, the retail outlets offer services such as free workshops on using the iPhone handset and one-to-one training sessions across all Apple products, as well as the Genius Bar and areas for hands-on technical advice.

i resent the Belfast store being called Ireland.

I accept that we have more retailers here carrying Apple product, the simple fact is that it is simply another UK store.

    my god your an idiot

its in ireland - may be called a uk store - still on the island of ireland though

Yeah but it's an Occupied Territory. Just 'cos Canada and the US are technically on the same island doesn't make them the same country, and an Apple store in Vancouver wouldn't be advertised as an American store. Misleading placement ftl:p

Actually Canada is part of America, just not the USA.

Similarly Belfast is part of Ireland, just not the Republic of Ireland.

On topic: A dublin store would be nice, those o2 experience stores are a disgrace half the time.

Hence why I said that Canada and the US were not the same country.

Conor2007, you have reported a legitimate post that was made by a moderator, following an infraction which was issued to you for insulting another user, this is not such a wise move.

    oh no

    i am , . sorry ?

Do I sense a touch of sarcasm there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,230 ✭✭✭Breezer

    Ooh, this is entertaining :D

And yes, it's a little deceptive calling it an Irish store. When it comes to doing business, Belfast is in the UK. GBP, UK VAT rates etc. Though it appears most Apple stuff is cheaper when converted from Stirling into Euro so meh :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 636 ✭✭✭conor2007

    no , no way

    deceptive - how?

it says its in belfast - ya can work out where that is - still in ireland tho

The store is to be located in Belfast. Currently, the UK has Apple stores. Now, the UK will have another Apple store. Ireland will remain without one. It's hardly the biggest issue, of course I know where Belfast is, just pointing out the inaccuracy. Your argument that the store will be located on the island of Ireland is equivalent to saying France has a store in Italy.

im aware its a different country

bit stupid making the point its not an irish store - its an apple store in ireland - more specifically belfast northern ireland , the ''uk''.

Conor, I'm sorry, I hit the wrong button and attributed the quote to you instead of Call_me_al. I've edited it. Anyway, I think 440Hz is right, this is going nowhere. If we want to debate Northern Ireland there's a politics forum :D
